Just Curious [More:]
I remember that every time we hit up the Grassroots Festival we come across at least 100 or more females of every age that do not shave any hair off of their bodies.

What I want to know is if it's a common practice among the Neo Hippies?

Is it an Upstate NY fashion trend?

Is it a passed down generation tradition?
Is '60's Women's Lib back in the house?

Or Is it considered down right sexy in some cultures (ala elongated lobes and lips in various African tribes)?
you want me to hook you up with a hot sasquatch chick, g?

I didn't think it was sexy until I saw 1984 when I was twelve.

*shrug*

I know plenty of women that don't remove any hair from their bodies. Most of them aren't trying to make a statement, just forgoing one more unnecessary pain in the ass thing to do to themselves.

Hell, I rarely shave my legs, even in summer when I wear skirts pretty much all the time.

I like you, have him shaved and brought to my tent.

Yes, warbaby, there are neohippies. Pity them.

And yes, Joe, that does seem to be a fashion trend among that subculture. But there are non-neohippies who don't shave, too.

I like to braid my armpits, with tiny tiny beads.

Hmmmm. The hippies never really left here. Some drifted off and became plastic people, but there have always been some around.

So it looks like you have Stevie Wonder in a headlock?

Same here. I don't mind shaving the pits, because that takes less than 30 seconds. But the legs -- what a pain that is. Legs are so very far AWAY, and, if you don't mind my saying so, mine are looonng. I can't see very well in the shower, because I don't have my glasses on or my contacts in, so I always miss spots, or cut myself. So, I never shave them in the winter, and not very often in the summer.

The funny thing is, when I was 12 and my mother let me start shaving my legs, she told me not to shave above the knees, which I of course ignored. Now, when I do shave them, knees down is as much as I can stand.

DW, you owe me one mouthful of coffee. and a small glob of phlegm.

warbaby, as a real hippie, the neohippies may just embarass you into going redneck.

I shaved a hippie once, btw, looked like Audie Murphy once we hosed it off.
posted by Divine_Wino 16 August | 15:48
Wish I could join ya, DW. I'm all the ways out in Queens, unfortunately, with supper on the stove (linguini with clam sauce).

I'll tell you a secret, bunnies. Since I'm a child of the seventies, I actually have no problem with it at all. I just thought that since the non-neo hippies are all-bush shaving bunch these days, that it seemed odd or behind the times even to not shave at all.

Also, I agree with Gaspode. I guess it really could be annoying.

THANY YE KINDLY, KINFOLK!!!

Actually, I've always been more Freak than Hippie. Sort of a cross between Freewheeling Frank and Phineas. Not so much Fat Freddie.

But I do like the hippie chicks. I really do.
