AskMeCha: Does anybody know if there is such a thing as an extender cable for cheap headphones? [More:] The cable on my headphones is too short to reach the computer here at work -- I have to sit fairly far away because of the way things are set up. I know wireless headphones are probably the much better answer, but is there also some kind of adapter cable I could get instead, just to get some length to work with? I tried Radio Shack's site, but it's damned hard to find anything on there.
Get a female-to-female 1/8" stereo adapter, buy a sufficiently long 1/8" male-to-male stereo cable. Plug F-F adapter into M-M cable. Plug headphones into the other end. Make sure they're both stereo — the informed staff of Radio Shack will happily sell you mono goods.

They also sell 3.5mm/1/8" extension cables - IE, male plug on one end, female on the other. I have a couple of them in various lenghths somewhere.

Those Rat Shack dudes only know how to sell cell telephones anymore.

Try here.

Great -- I figured there had to be a simple solution, but searching for "headphone cable extension thingy" wasn't cutting it. Thanks folks!

Fun fact: I have enough headphone extension cable to go anywhere in my apartment with headphones on.

I've learned that including the word "thingy" in a Google search is always counterproductive. Even though I really like the word "thingy" and use it often myself.
