Scared cats question [More:]Why would my cats be so freaked out by my neighbour's 3-legged cat?

A friend moved in over the road a few weeks ago. She has two cats, Stanley (sweet ginger boy) and Henry (black, sleek as a seal and with only 3 legs - right hind leg is missing following previous Henry v car contest where car nearly won).

Usually when another cat comes into 'their' yard, my girls'll either go out through the cat flap and see it off, or will face it off through the patio door.

But today, their first sight (I think) of 3-legged Henry, they were both obviously freaked and ran back and hid, peering out from behind the door at him.

It was quite funny to watch, Henry is a little thing and my girls more than outweigh him, the fat dollops. But why would they be scared of him? He's not aggressive and didn't seem to be 'staking his claim' to their yard by peeing in it. Could it be the 3 legs? NB: I have asked them and as usual they have not deigned to reply.
It could be the 3-legged thing. I have been occasionally frightened by 3-legged boys, too.

I'd guess it's the three legs. He'd look different and move different than any other cat they've met. Tell the girls it's rude to stare.

What deborah said.

They'll get over it.

All cats are sacred.

Maybe the three-legger gives off an aggressive attitude vibe to compensate for being handicapped?

Jan, do you have much traffic out where you live? Is it safe to have indoor-outdoor cats? Mine would probably become street pizza or be served anti-freeze or something.

Is the three-legged cat prone to whistling?

It's the "oh my god what the hell is that!?" sensation. I dressed my one cat up in a scarf and hat once and the other one didn't come out from beind the washing machine for days.
no I don't normally mess with my cats heads that much. But I'll admit to have post-it-noted their foreheads just to watch them walk backwards once or twice. Omg I'm evil.

I live by a forest, at the end of a cul-de-sac, surrounded by big houses, so no traffic, no passers-by, lots of nice big gardens for my cats to explore, especially the Big House next door where their friends live.
