In honor of nothing in particular [More:] except for the fact that I'm listening to it on my iPod as I type, a live version of one of the 10 greatest rock anthems. ever.
I can't hear, nor can I tell what the song is, and I hope you won't mind this sidetrack, but I just gotta say, Petty's the man.

Petty is indeed a third-degree mensch. (Don't worry, the song is one you'd approve, I'll play it on the juke later).

Also, "Saturday Gigs," by the same group linked is a rocking and very touching song.

Just watched "The Postman" last night, where post apocalyptic Kostner says to Petty, playing himself, "you used to be famous."

Tom Petty is 55 years old. That is all.

I have never seen The Postman, but I can say with total confidence that the 'You Got Lucky' video is better.

My parents took me to my first Petty show when I was ten. My father remembers the lights going down in the open-air Merriweather Post Pavilion and a thousand joints lighting up. He (a straight-laced gummint man) looked up at the ceiling of the pavilion a few minutes later and wondered what the street value of all that smoke was, and whether it could be counted at all.

Something my brother once said to me:

"Every time I hear a Replacements song I think, Petty already did this and it was called 'The Waiting.'"
