Is this lamp going to burn my house down? [More:]

The metal harp** on which the lampshade sits actually touches the bulb. Yay Ikea! Maybe light bulbs are narrower in Sweden?

I guess my concern is that the bulb will heat up the metal and the metal will heat up the bulb and the bulb will shatter. In my face.

Or is it all going to be okay? Safe to use? Help me.

** I spent 15 minutes trying to remember the name of the damned thing. Finally had to Google. Yay Google.
I think you'll be okay mup. Fret not.

The bulb will not shatter; it will not burn down your house.

Cool. Thanks.

(But if you people don't hear from me after a few days, you'll know why.)

Have you tried sticking a CFL in there? They generally have a much narrower form-factor than an incandescent, and save teh energy.

Yeah, Pi, but that would mean leaving the house.

LEAVE ME AND MY LIGHT BULBS ALONE!

I'm just impressed that bulbs.com actually sells lightbulbs.

Yay! They must be confused, though, because they normally wouldn't sprout until fall. Here in the great oven that is the Central Valley, that is.

Did anyone else note richat's harp pun? Be fretless mudpuppie, he is not a lyre.

I have no idea whether your lamp is safe or not, but those are some cool meetup picks a little further back in your photostream. I had never before seen teh METATATT.

Nah, light bulbs don't get hot enough to worry about, as long as the bulb is not touching the shade itself. I would, however, look for a narrower bulb if you ever leave the house, just so that the frame of the lamp shade doesn't get hot and burn your widdle fingers if you leave the lamp on for a few days. As warbaby says, stick to 40 or 60 watts and you will never have a problem regardless.

It disturbs me that there hasn't yet been a MeFi post on || Three-point big picture to-do list.
