jonmc gets pierced. [More:] We were out in the East Village and I've been hungry for change lately. Pips suggested I do a nipple, but I decided to stick with the ears this time. Call it preparation for a tattoo this summer. But we had the camera, so you are there.
Gold studs in them now, I hope? Wrong season for piercing! Now make sure to keep that clean. If you behave I'll let you borrow my biohazard silver stud earrings. ;)

Stainless steel hoops.

Hoops works. I thought gold made it less risk of infection/allergic reaction? That was way back when I pierced my ears. Mebbe stainless wasn't around 30 years ago.

holy crap did that ever make me sound old! I was a wee lass when I pierced my ears.

You're lucky you don't have long hair and went to get it done at one of those teeny-girl jewelry places in the mall when you were 16.

From what I can see, they suit you.

Nice pics. Watch out for that backlight.

Oh thank goodness, I was expecting a Prince Albert (at least I think that's the one that gives me nightmares).

Yay! Congrats on the new holes! They look good. I myself have 14 holes and have plans for more (me = slight masochist).

That looks like a great studio, maybe in I'm ever in NYC I'll have to look it up (so the name of it is??)...

dabitch: stainless is the new gold. It has to be "surgical stainless steel" and preferably from a reputable dealer. This means the metal is relatively non-porous so no buggies can live inside it. Its both cheaper and sturdier than gold (well, sturdier than high carat gold). FWIW, my first holes were done with gold studs. The rest were stainless steel studs or hoops (hoops are teh bestest!)

I hope you're planning to work your way up to shotgun shells. DOn't think I've ever seen a 22 shell used. That would be cool.

Holy crap, it's like he got a visit from queer eye or something. Hair wax, body wash, and now this?

Just kidding. Luv ya, man. Luv Pips too.

We're groovin' on the luv, tilda... Back atcha... : )

I myself have 14 holes...

Does that include the natural ones, LF? ; )

I was considerin' an eyebrow piercing myself, actually, but I was concerned about not being able to take it in and out like earrings... and a girl in the waiting area said it can scar if you do take it out, so I don't know... still thinkin' about it, though... I like the barbell look, over my right eye...

I definitely want a tattoo, though... I've had one picked out for years... it's this fairy on tiptoes, with long flowing wings (sounds cliche, I know, but it's really cool... and jon, of course, wants Buddy Bradley, his alter ego... maybe when we're in Vegas).

Nope, those are on top of the natural ones. I also have two tattoos and am trying to save for my third (the artist I love is a tad pricey).

I'm currently contemplating another hole, a labret, but I wear glasses and already have a nose ring so I'm thinking that might be too much facial stuff going on.
posted by LunaticFringe 17 June | 13:06
I used to have two over my right eye, Pips (was going for an entire row back in my body-mod days). Although after a while you can take them in and out, they do scar permanently. I haven't worn anything in mine for about 6 years and they show no sign of going away. Ditto the nose piercing, although it closes up much faster. It doesn't bother me, but if you're worried about it...

nice Blackhawks shirt!

And also--what 'tilda said, although a Buddy Bradley tattoo would definitely counteract that effect. I haven't read Bagge in years (through shameful neglect, not fading affection), but for a while I decided that Girly Girl was my alter ego. I'm much less angry now.

aw...you're supposed to have a friend do it with a needle, ice, and some strong liquor to drink : >

I'm glad you went to a piercer rather than one of those mall places, jon. You can't clean those guns very well and real piercers use autoclaves.

As mentioned in your flickr stream, my nose is pierced and I have a screw in it. It gets kinda "screwed" into your nose and stays there really well. Well, unless I need to scratch and forget it's there and catch it with a fingernail. Ouchie.

Thanks for the info., elizard. I am leaning towards getting it... it's good to know you can take it in and out; the scars probably wouldn't bother me either... we'll see.

My cartoon hero/counterpoint's Bitchy Bitch from Naughty Bits, myself. Her, or Peppermint Patty.

(On preview, there was a guy getting a nose screw when we were there, deb.... very cool.)

why, giovanni? perchè?

Pips - there are also plastic spacer things that you can get, if you're likely to have to take the ring or barbell out for an extended period of time. Haven't tried them myself, though. You might want to initially have a captive-bead ring up there, and switch to a barbell after it's healed, since it's generally easier to clean the piercing when you've got a ring in.

hey cool. ive been rockin the silver hoops for a few years now. in fact, i think this is the only pair i own lol. i like em. i think they say, "i'm down with the shit, but i'm not a freak"

I have five tattoos, but the only thing pierced is my ears. My daughter had her eyebrow pierced, but didn't care for it properly. She had a blood blister right at the top hole, and I noticed that both ends are scarred. Doesn't seem to bother her, though. When it comes to getting a tattoo, make sure you get something that means something to you-or that you absolutly love. It's harder to take them off than put them on.

Now you'll never get that FBI job.

Unless you pass the Stoolpigeon Aptitude Test or something.
