AskMeCha: Where can I find a replacement lampshade? Hi everyone, so I'm a longtime lurker of both MeCha and AskMe (had the account for years, too shy to post...) but I would really, really appreciate your help. I broke my boyfriend's beloved Ikea lampshade, and I want to find a replacement. Any ideas? [More:] I know it seems silly that it takes a broken lampshade for me to de-lurk, but I didn't know where else to turn.

You bunnies all are lovely, I enjoy everyone here, I thought you should know. :) I might even continue to post if I'm brave enough! Thank you so much.
Welcome, carabiner! Unfortunately, I can't help with the lampshade. There are, believe it or not, Ikea fan sites and message boards. Maybe someone on one of those can help you?

Welcome!

Call ikea and ask. Look online for the lamp at ikea site, maybe they have shades separate?

Also, depending on whether you live in a more urbane area, you likely are not too too far from a lighting wearhous or even a shade store.

People re-sell a lot of Ikea stuff on Ebay. I'd do a quick search there. And next time you're drunk, don't put a glass lampshade on your head ;)

Hi, carabiner! How old is the lamp?

wow, I didn't think I'd get any replies since my post didn't include OMG Bunnies! :) You sure know how to roll out the welcome wagon. Thank you for making me feel special :)*whuffles to all*

pi: I've searched eBay and Google to no avail :( I guess I'll search it weekly, but not knowing even the correct Ikea name and only to describe it as mushroom shaped. It's a cute lamp, though I don't think that would suffice in the eBay or Google search terms.

iconomy: He says he bought it circa 2002, but it could be another year...

Hmm there has to be a way to find out the model name or number, right?

iconomy: The only information on the bottom of the lamp is the following...

first sticker: Use only 40Watt 120V Type G lamp bulbs
second sticker: it has a holographic background with 5 lines:
- first line in the left hand corner [03/99] right hand corner [E86924]
- second line is two circles with a UL in the middle
- third line is [Listed] beneath the two circles in row 2
- fourth line is [Portable Lamp]
- fifth line is [Issue No. BH-61,566]

the third sticker is a small white and black Ikea logo in the centre and the number 83 beneath that.

Other than that, there is nothing on the lamp.

I can't track it down, but according to this, the E86924 is the model number of the lamp, and BH-61,566 is the issue number, and those are the two things you need to identify it. Try calling Ikea and telling them the numbers.
