You Think You Know Fear? [More:]You don't know nothing about fear until you see your two year old fall down a flight of steps.

THAT is fear.

Luckily, the steps were carpeted and he is alright, just very shaken up.

But the image of him tumbling down the stairs out of control ahead of me and out of my reach will not be leaving my mind for a very, very long time to come.
Phew! I remember we lived in a house when I was 2, 3 years old where I regularly used to fall down the (uncarpeted, wooden) stairs, with no apparent ill effects. Kids can be unexpectedly bouncy.

Poor little thing -- I remember falling down stairs at a young age. I hope he wasn't too scared.

He is surprisingly fine now, laughing and playing like nothing happened. Which, of course, makes me fearful that it didn't make an impression on him. But we'll just have to wait and see.

It only gets better in the coming years fenriq, stitches, knocked out tooth, a cast. It's scary watching them grow up.

You only THINK you know fear. Wait until the kid get's a driver's license. (Within weeks, I'll have one licensed teen driver and one with his learner's permit in the house. Pray for me.)

Fear is having your 15 month old jump in the deep end of a pool, and you close but not close enough. I was in the water, and my (now) ex was watching our first born. He saw me having fun, and decided to join me. So he jumped in, and went straight down. I'm a good swimmer, and was under him in seconds, but they were the longest seconds I'd ever want to spend. He was fine, bouyant even, but I got three new gray hairs that day.

Every kid takes a stair dive. Mine went down our wooden stairs at about 2 years old, I just happened to be in the room and was able to catch him at the bottom. Then there was the time he tumbled out of the shopping cart and landed on his head on the parking lot... Said boy is 6 now and is at this very moment in the living room dancing to "Crazy Frog." So I guess there was brain damage.

There are muscles in your stomach that tighten in fear when your child learns to crawl. I am not sure when they relax!

There was the time my oldest was hit by a baseball bat because he was standing too close his friend and got whacked by the follow-through. Big ol' knot on the forehead that still turns purple in the cold (and that was 13 years ago).

Until I read this thread and remembered all the times the little ones in my family came "this" close to losing an eye, hand, finger or, worse, I found this cartoon funny.
