I wonder how many boas get attacked while they're eating and therefore defenseless.

That said, having stood near kangaroos, that's frightening. They ain't tiny, unless it was a baby one or something.

Warning: This image is pretty disturbing:

Python ruptures trying to eat a crocodile.

Apparantly, there have been 4 such encounters in the everglades, and pythons and crocodiles are pretty evenly matched.

I recall years ago reading about a guy that had a 20 foot burmese python which for unknown reasons constricted and killed him. In his house police found evidence that a lot of missing pets from the area had ended up in the snake, which the owner could not afford to feed. So he stole pets. After reading that I could not help but be happy the snake killed him. Pythons really should not be legal as pets. They represent a huge danger to native life and (occasionally) humans and in a place like the everglades they will be especially hard to eliminate, if it is even possible.

People buy them when they are little and then when they are 10 feet long and 50 lbs or bigger, become extremely hard to do anything with (a full grown burmese python produces as much waste as a horse for one thing) and then people just dump them somewhere. And frequently the same people then get another small python. Idiocy.

I just googled and found a lot of hits and several python-kills-owner stories, but never could find this particular story. Oh well.
Cmonkey, you failed me. You're supposed to put a snake warning on the front page, else me and jrossi might accidentally stumble across it. Our nightmares are on your conscience, buddy.

In fact, I ask the mods: Can we have a snake warning agreement, much like the NSFW agreement?

Aww, I didn't even think about that :(

Eekacat, I was well-informed enough not to click. I'll take your word for its cuteness, though.
