AAAAGH! My doctor has abandoned me. I just got a letter saying he is closing his practice. →[More:] I loved him so much that I travelled an hour to see him. (The doctors around here are abyssmal. Really bad.) But the suck assiest thing is that the letter says that the practice is closing 6/1 and to contact him for copies of my medical records before then. WTF? Now I have no doctor and no records. I'm pissed and slightly baffled!

That sucks!

I'm sure you can still track him down for your records. That doesn't solve the rest though. Good doctors are gold.

He's shipped the records off to another physician. I'm just totally ticked off by the lack of notice. No chance to get prescriptions refilled, etc. This cannot have been a last minute decision. It would have been nice to get the letter a month ago, not the day after it's too late.

He used e-mail. He had a really thorough computerized record. Nothing got overlooked. I don't want to have to go to one of these horrible medical mills around here. It's all checklist medicine. If you don't have one of the 10 things they know how to treat, you're out of luck.

I hate that. . . it is SO hard to find new practitioners, when one is delighted with what one has.

Do you know where your file IS now. . .as in what doctor has it?

Yeah. He gave me the info for the new doc he's advising his patients to transfer to. But before him, I'd never had a skin check or cholesterol screening or thyroid tests and no one considered my mild hypertension a big deal, despite a family history of skin cancer, thyroid disease and heart disease. Now I'm going to have to fight the country doctors to stay on top of this stuff and they HATE uppity patients.
