30 May 2006

I am back from the meetup!! [More:]I had an excellent time. I took something with me to act as an icebreaker and it had the desired effect, with atrazine screaming "Snakes! On a Motherfuckin' Plane!" while one of the acts was performing, heh.

A great bunch of guys, I am so glad I went (I almost didn't). I even drove into London, and managed to find a free parking space two minutes' walk from the pub.

The next meetup on 9 June is ludwig_van's last gig before he goes back to the States. He is really very good and I have never seen a band before that consists of guitar and tuba. I will definitely be there to help give ludwig_van a good send-off, he is a sweetie.

Here's the full set of photos.
Oh, and I am really sorry about all the people I forgot about in my shoutout. But at least I did not do what one of those present admitted he did at a meetup, and print off a list of MeFi users as a crib sheet.

So my apologies to Specklet, amberglow, pieisexactlythree, scody and everybody else I intended to mention but didn't.

Thanks for the shoutout! I don't think I've ever seen a current pic of you ej - you are lovely!

Is atrazine as funny in person as he is on the grey? I get a kick out of his wry comments. Nice duds, essexjan! Are you wearing tights and a purple suede skirt?

Very cool to see essexjan,
and an IIHAA shoutout to boot!?
w00t!

And, wow, these ludwig_van songs are great.

Superlatives all around, Tuesday toasts abound.

Thanks for two shoutouts--it makes me feel naughty. That looks like it was a cozy, fun meetup.

Fishnets and a purple suede skirt. You're very observant. And stockings, not tights.

And yes, atrazine is a funny guy, very dry wit.

Even though I never get shouted-out (and that's fair; I never do shoutouts myself), I'm pleased to see a Transformers t-shirt.

Yeah, it's great to see essexjan. You really are very attractive, ej. I didn't really notice your clothes, though. I never notice anyone's clothes. I don't even remember people's eye color. I just hope I never have to be a witness that describes someone to the police. I'll be useless.

What was I saying? Oh, yeah, how lovely essexjan is. Right. :)

I knew what Jan looked like somehow (I'm sure I've seen a photo before), so I knew she was lovely. I have a very specific image in my head, and she looks just as I expected. I just want to hug her.

The weird thing is, I also have this very specific idea of jan's living room (this, of course, is totally imaginary): White walls a very big picture window with lots of green foliage visible outside, a sort of darkish grey-ish or beige-ish wool carpet, a muted red (?) comfy sofa facing the window, with a wooden coffee table in front, and her two cats snuggled on it, a large potted plant in one corner (same wall as the sofa), a rocking chair with an afghan draped on it, a tv in the corner to the left of the picture window, a big fern on a small table to the right of the picture window.

Aren't minds just the weirdest things?

That's what I'm told.

LOL Snake in a beer! Great icebreaker. I knew from the double exclamation point that you'd had a good time. I'm glad you went! The parking space was a sign from the gods, I think. :D

Wallpaper! They have wallpaper in England. We used to have wallpaper here, but it's all been replaced with blow-on drywall texture. We used to have wood trim, but that's becoming a rarity too.

It looks just like the pictures.

I am so glad you had a great time because you were so worried about it. See, you had NOTHING to be worried about! Isn't that a great feeling?

Plus it looks like you were the only girl, so you were probably very welcome!

The weird thing is, I also have this very specific idea of jan's living room

My living room (taken a few years ago with a truly awful digital camera), and about to be redecorated to get rid of the wallpaper (which was the ex-husband's choice).

And yes, I do have a rocking chair (no afghan on it), but had to smile at the pot plant - I normally remember to water pot plants when I notice they've gone crispy, and by then, even for indestructible spider plants, it's usually too late.

I have a lot of books, which are in a big bookcase in the hall or piled up on my bedside table, but I try if possible to keep the living room free of clutter.

It was nice to be the only girl last night, amongst such a lovely crowd of men.

Ha! I actually got some things right! The window... the walls, kind of... the couch is almost exactly what I pictured, though a different color, and placed almost exactly as I imagined. I had the rocking chair!

And this is funny: though I didn't mention it, you have a doorway exactly where I imagined one. But exactly.
