My friend died Sunday Maybe you've seen this on the news. I don't know why I'm putting it here, really, except that I just want people to know about Annmarie and what a strange, beautiful, amazing person she was. It's hard for that to come across in a tiny little picture and an "OMG! Killer Alligator Rampage!" news story.
→[More:]Annmarie was absolutely the most passionate person I have ever known. The taste of good bread and cheese could literally bring her to tears. Her drawings and prints were full of pale colors and delicate lines but there was still an undercurrent of something visceral and frightening and maybe even disgusting. Annmarie was fascinated by the dirt and the stains and the ugly and ignored and abandoned parts of life, but she never seemed morbid or frightening. She found those things beautiful, and she was beautiful, and she was able to make other people see the things she loved as beautiful, too.
Anyway, that's my clumsy attempt to tell you a little about my friend. Her blog is
here, she can explain herself better than I can.
