28 April 2006

So far, so good. I mentioned in IRC last night that today was going to be my first non-smoking day.[More:]That was before I fell asleep on my couch and left my computer online all night. Doh! Woke up this morning wanting to smoke, put on a patch, went to bed for a little while, and woke up not wanting one. Haven't had withdrawal pain, thanks to the patch. That's what wrecked previous stopping. Finding things to do with my hands. Just feel kinda strange.

Please wish me luck, y'all.

And all you smokers, light one for me tonight. I think that may be the part I'm missing most. That initial *snap/burn*.
Good luck, lilywing!

(You can do it.)

and maybe start some specific new thing in place of the cigarette? like after eating, and when you wake up, etc--all the times you would otherwise have had one?

Thanks y'all!

And yeah, I read a bunch of askme's with great advice. Using a combination approach. I was only smoking for bare maintenance all week and just disgusted by it.

One of the good things is that I was addicted to a particular brand of cloves. The company went under, so there just aren't anymore readily available. I don't like plain smokes or other cloves.

And I've been brushing my teeth after meals today and generally spoiling myself in small ways.

Thanks again for the support!

I'm planning to quit when i turn thirty and since its looming fast, i thought i'd do a trial run of no smoking, which didnt go all that well. barely half a day. I'll do another trial run soon. It's going to suck. Good luck lilywing

Congrats. I'm one of the 'never smoked' and am so glad I never tried it, I know what I'm like with all kinds of other addictive things. Everyone I know who's in recovery from drink or drugs says that giving up smoking is far more difficult than either drink or drugs.

So kudos to anyone who has the courage to give it up.
