Hedgehog! OMG! Curse the fact that the state of CA does not allow me to own one.[More:]Although my seventh grade biology teacher had one in her class. IIRC, she got it in Nevada (or was it Arizona?) and had to go through loads of red tape in order to bring her across state lines.

*sigh* They aren't the only cool but illegal pet here in California. Ferrets and skunks are verboten too. :(

...there isn't some sort of hedgehog underground, is there?
Weird - I wonder why they're verboten in CA. Is it an alien species vs. agribusiness thing perhaps?

I think you can own ferrets in CA. It's just not legal to sell them or breed them or something. They sell ferret food in the larger pet stores, and I've known plenty of people that have had them.

Ferrets are legal in AZ, and the first time I saw 'em in a pet store I just about exploded. OMGOMGOMGOMGFERRETS!!!

I'd love to have ferrets, but I realize they're like a gazjillion times more trouble then my pet rats and need even more attention and stimulation, and they're waaaay more nippy 'cause that's how they explore their surroundings, and I have enough chewed-upon speaker and network cables, thank you.

So, rats are a close second to ferrets. Same kind of nosy, loping furry fun in a tenth the size and cost, and much, much less nippy.

But they don't really do that ferrety walking-sideways and four other directions at once like i'm just two people in suit and my head doesn't know what my ass is doing kind of thing.

But my rats aren't capable of, say, opening drawers or cabinets and completely emptying them in 2.3 seconds. And they smell better, and actually fit in my pocket, and aren't hoarders of shiny things.

Can't wait to get home this evening so I can watch the hedgehog video. No multimedia (not even flash) allowed on our PCs in the office :-(

I'm actually getting a hedgehog! It'll be a little while, but there will be pics. Hopefully some as cute as this!

That movie was SO worth waiting all day for. When he fell on his back and his little feet are kicking I almost peed my pants.

Wonderful!

That hedgehog video is excellent. I laughed like a five-year-old through the entire thing. I am still giggling! That, and I keep thinking about our old ferret, and the way he loved to tear around on our hardwood floors. It was like a cartoon!

I am going to be laughing all day. Thank you, loq!

ooga-booga: It's not so much as hedgehogs are specifically outlawed, but in anything that isn't on the state's list of acceptable domesticated animals is considered illegal by default. At least that was how it was explained on one of the hedgehog sites I visited. And I'm roughly paraphrasing, so I could be mistaken on the details.

loq- OMG that video. *dies* I guess Hedgehog is to paper tube as cat is to paper grocery bag.

Specklet- Lucky! I'll hold you to the posting pics thing. ;)
