Jab, jab, jab ... [More:]I just got back from the hospital, where I'd expected to get the results of the core biopsy they did 3 weeks ago. Instead the doctor (a different doctor each time, of course, it would be too easy to see the same one each time) said she needed to repeat the core biopsy, but take samples from much deeper in the tumour than the previous tests.

So I had the local anaesthetic again, which was the only part that hurt, and then she took 8 or 9 samples in all. I get the results in three weeks (at least that's what they told me. Or maybe this is some new money-saving technique, where they are actually removing the tumour, but in tiny pieces, every three weeks.)

It looks as if this mass will have to be removed anyway, so why not just do it? I could really do without the worry of this. But worrying won't change anything.

It was fun driving home with my gear-changing arm still numb from the anaesthetic. So I expect I can add the cost of a new gearbox to this year's car bills :-)

And now I'm waiting for the numbness to wear off. Last time they told me I could expect "a little discomfort and slight bruising", but I found out that they had actually been talking in a different language, Hospitalese, and what they really meant was two days of pain so bad I could barely move my arm and bruising that went from my collarbone to my elbow. At least this time I know what to expect and I've already called into the office and told them I'll see them on Monday.

And now I'm cheering myself up with a healthy, nutritious lunch of blueberry muffin followed by chunky peanut butter KitKat, washed down with creosote-strength coffee.
feel better hon : >

Lemme guess, you still have to pay for the first one, even though it was their fault they didn't do it right?

Stupids.

medical is free there, sciurus (unless you went private, jan?)

I've been fretting and worrying all day about some housing problems that have just popped up. Talk about having things put in perspective. Your "worrying won't change anything" attitude really puts me to shame.

Those Peanut Kit-Kats are disgusting though..WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!?

What is this free of which you speak?

EJ, I'll blackenblue a doctor for you if you want.

It's free, under the NHS. I do have private insurance, as a perk of my job, but my local NHS Trust has a specialist unit for this so I've gone through the NHS.

And peanut butter KitKats rawk. All food is enhanced when graced with peanut butter.

I concur about peanutbuttery goodness. One of my coworkers is allergic and my mind boggles at a life bereft of the most ubiquitous of nuts.

off topic, amberglow, can you approve my post? I guess it was too long or somethin.

I can be coerced to do just about anything with chocolate + peanut butter. *gurgle*

jan, you are such a trooper and I admire you deeply. All my best to you.

for the stress, not for doom and gloom. It's still probably "nothing," you know.

Hehe, essexjan said "jugs". I just heard that in my mind with a British accent.

Could you please email me your snail addy? *I* got some peanut butter treats to send ya!
posted by chewatadistance 29 March | 09:01
WTF?! customs destroys food sent over? Should I try sending it anyway? All I'd lose are some peanutbutter filled malted milkballs.

good luck. prayers and hopes and all that go with you.

"Discomfort" is a medical word for pain. To communicate effectively with the medical world, try using the term "Feeling some discomfort." They should pay attention.

Keep on keeping on with the peanutty goodness, lady!

(chewatadistance: I've sent candy to the UK before -- I didn't think they counted that as "food")

It's probably my local sorting office at the Royal Mail that snarfs it and then puts a card through the door saying that a parcel containing 'perishables' has had to be destroyed, the bastards.

Probably means they ate it.

I think as long as it's a sealed, packaged product, it's okay. When I came through customs from the Bahamas, they made a huge deal about how attempting to bring anything fresh over the border carried a $65000 fine. That rule may not apply to mail, though.
posted by mike9322 29 March | 13:54
mike, totally applies to mail. (That's why I can't make keylime pie in Oregon year-round like my momma can in Florida.)

jan, I send you blessings and sweetness and boobie love.
posted by Specklet 29 March | 14:33
Oh, I actually meant the opposite way, speck. Does the "sealed foods are okay" rule apply to mail?

I hope the wait goes quickly for you.

Did someone say key lime pie?!
