19 March 2006

favorite song this week [More:]

The Tinklers - The Dodo Bird and the Calavaria Tree

originally released on an album called Saplings back in 1991 on Shimmy Disc, I believe.

I think if I had any musical talent, this is the first song I would cover.

has any one song captivated y'all this week?
this song (embedded video) has thrilled me this week, as has everything else on Herman Dune + Yayahon's mp3 site.

dobbs, that was a cool tune.

Aside from some kid's tunes that are annoyingly adhesive to my brain, I've been enjoying Drive Me Wild by the Richmond Sluts an awful lot.

thanks, dobbs.

Herman Düne are such a great band, but I'd never really imagined they looked like that!

Devotchka's "How It Ends". (Which seems to be popular enough here already, but if anyone wants it, drop me an line and I'll hook you up.)

Also, DJed-Bruise Blood Mix : Remix by U.N.K.L.E., a remix of a Tortoise song.

Love the organ in that song, fenriq!

I found the HD track in an FPP on the blue earlier in the week.

jann, that song's fucked but I like it. Heh.

fenriq, that track reminds me of The Kiss Offs.

I have that track, Fris, and it's a good'n!

Aha! My wifi's being a little bitch again, but I finally got the Dodo bird song downloaded. Weird and awesome; thanks, jann!

dobbs, if there's anyone I would've expected to have that track it would be you. I also have to say that after the Chico Time nonsense, I paused before clicking this link [I keed! Sort of.], but I'm happy to report that I laughed through the whole thing. Thanks!

Fris, why do you say that?

I've seen Tortoise live many times (though not in years); one of my fave gigs ever was Danko Jones, Tortoise and Six Finger Satellite.

You mean about Chico Time? Because I had the song in my head all night long. Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep a straight face when your not so figuratively half crazed Croatian co-worker starts screaming at you mid shift about a lot of things you can't understand because he's not exactly speaking English anymore and he's waving his hands all about his head and the only you can think of is, "It's Chico Time!!!"?

If you're me, it's hard. If you're me, you may not manage to pull it off without a bit of a suppressed snort, (not out of disrespect but because you can never get a handle on the aburdist twists and turns your brain makes and it's been a long couple of weeks and you're tired and tired of crying and laughing is how you naturally blow off the tension in order to maintain a grip on sanity and you can't believe that your co-worker is actually holding you personally accountable for the current Biblical weather, but he really does seem to be, amongst so many other unrelated ills of the day and it's all too much, but you can't explain that to him because he's gotten so worked up that he's actually interrupting himself now), and that snort might further incense said Croatian coworker. Suffice it to say that it made for an extremely uncomfortable night and I remain high on the poor guy's shit list.

This, in and of itself, has turned into its own comic episode as he's quite the talent at holding grudges, but he appears to have been rather drunk when he went off on me the other night, so all he knows now is that he's supposed to be angry with me, but doesn't know exactly why. In moments of good humor, he lets things slip and reverts to nice guy only to snap back to pissy guy when he remembers, for whatever odd reason, that he's upset with me.

Obviously, this wasn't your doing or intent, but my hide's feeling a little chapped after the last few weeks, nonetheless. All that said, I always enjoy your links and wouldn't dream of not exploring them.

Doh! I'm sorry, FG, I misread your post. My Why was referring to you thinking I *wouldn't* have the Tortoise track, which I didn't understand why you would think that. Bzzt. Sorry. Ha.

And I'll apologize for the Chico Time post. I was transfixed watching it. Chico knocked Madonna off the UK Charts, dontchaknow! :)
