The brown stuff looks like heroin, judging by the pics of similar powder on Erowid.

This is probably the best guess for the pink pill with "205" on it.

Sorry, meant to add it looks like diphenhydramine (Benadryl), first hit on the list.

The one that says Wake Ups on it is an amphetamine, and the black cap probably is too. The sandy colored powder is probably either another amphetamine or heroin.

The yellow tablet looks exactly like an over-the-counter sinus med that I take.

As for the others, I think I would just ask my kid, if it were me.

My educated guess is that the brown powder is much more likely to be methamphetamine (i.e. chemically similar to crystal meth). Heroin is just not usually a high-school level drug, and is too addictive for casual use.

Disclaimer: I only smoked a little pot now and then, and haven't seen any other drug use up close in years.

The brown powder could also be entirely legal valerian root or kava-kava. They could also be hashish or "keif", the dust and crystals harvested from high grade weed.

It doesn't look like heroin or meth to me - but I can't really see from the picture if it's "sparkly" like it's flakes of shiny stuff that have light-reflecting facets. AFAIK heroin or meth usually isn't packaged like that. It makes it too difficult to open and meter out a proper dose.

Crystal Meth and even plain methamphetamine will melt under flame or heat. It's also extremely bitter to the taste. Even a single grain of crystal/meth will be bitter on the tongue. (And, yeah, a single grain will probably give you a bit of head change for a while, but it's not at all likely to kill you or get you addicted. Avoid the fumes from any melting experiments, though, as those will certainly thwack you.)

The "Wake Up" pill could be any number of quasi-legal caffiene/ephedra/ephedrine pills available over the counter at any mini-mart or truck stop. Though pressed-tablet forms of amphetamine are become much more popular here in the states - via parts of Asia - I really haven't seen or heard much about them, considering loose, raw crystal meth is so readily available. Which makes the tablet form much less desirable. And professional drug cartels that have the time and money to run tableting machines usually don't stamp obvious stuff like "Wake Up" on amphetamine pills.

Talk to your kid. It could be relatively innocent.

I'm going with anti-histamines, caffeine pills (the "wake ups" are sold over the counter, or they used to be), and a vitamin pill. The stuff in the capsules could be valerian or something. None of it looks like meth or heroin or cocaine to me; I agree with loquacious. Mind you, it's been twenty years since I laid eyes on any of that stuff, but I did have a pretty decent acquaintance with it (my punk rock days, donchaknow).

I'd ask your daughter, myself.

Speaking as a former afficionado of both heroin and methamphetamines, I really doubt that either of them are in those capsules. It wouldn't make sense to go to the effort of cramming some into a pill, since no one is going to want to ingest either drug orally in the first place. Doing so would just be flushing money down the toilet.

Looking tells you nothing about street drugs. The usual tests require non-over-the-counter reagents. The best test is by melting point if it's a crystaline powder. It gives you both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Like cmonkey, I doubt that's heroin. It doesn't travel in caps and even if it was heavily stepped on, swallowing it would probably kill a non-addict if it was H.

Looks pretty innocent to me: it's not a dealing quantity, whatever it is. The WakeUp is over-the-counter 100 mg caffein. Dunno about the 205's, take 'em to a pharmacy: ask them to identify and dispose. The black powder might be home-make ephidrine from mah-huang (pretty harmless if that's what it is.)

Have a talk about it. I don't see anything to get bent about. Little pea-sized ballons tied with dental floss, you'd be having big trouble. This is nothing like that.

Thanks everyone. I did post it over at AskMefi as well, and feel pretty confident now that:
- the pink pill is a "Wake Ups" brand caffeine pill
- the white caplets are some kind of herbal supplement or other dietary supplement, Valerian and Echinacea were suggested
- the black caplet is activated charcoal which apparently you can take in caplet form?!
- the pink 205 pills are benadryl
- the other stuff is OTC

This outcome is actually less surprising than the other, since I think she is sensible and that her friends are basically good kids with bad hairstyles.

The upshot now is probably I will talk to her about it in the vein of asking her to give them back to their owner, if known, and use the chance to reiterate a casual word on not getting into drugs.
