Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens ... [More:]What are your favourite things?

Mine are:

1. Teddy Edward. He's a stuffed Chad Valley bear and was my Christmas present when I was four years old. He's been with me through thick and thin, and is a little threadbare now (maybe I should change his name to Fred Bear).

2. I love glass, and a few years ago I was helping out a friend at a craft fair. The guy opposite sold stained glass objects, mostly kalaidoscopes, but he had this lamp he'd made. He wanted £75 for it, but as he was packing up to go home with it unsold, he let me have it for £60 (about $100). I call it my sobriety lamp because when I was drinking (a) I would never have spent £60 on something that I couldn't drink, unless I was drunk at the time and bought it in some grandiose gesture and (b) if I had bought it when I was drunk, it would've been smashed within days because I used to fall over a lot and knock things flying.

3. My bird table. I like to watch the birds and squirrels feeding. I love critters.

4. The awesomeness of a beautiful skyscape always amazes me. Sunrise, sunset, city lights, stars, clouds, whatever. Reminds me I'm just a little speck in the big dustbowl.

5. Live music. There's something about the energy of a live performance that can't be replicated in recordings. Best life performer I've seen in the last year? Dave Alvin, without a doubt.

These are a few of my favourite things.
Here is a blog post I did on that topic almost two years ago.

1. Her. Yeah, it's cheesy and predictable - but it's true!
2. Live music - me too, jan. I really lose myself at a show. I'll make ridiculous trips to see a band I like. When I was in college, I drove 5 hours home to see a band on a school night, drove back to school when it was over, parked my car, and went straight to class. I am seriously considering making a trip to Europe to see my favorite band (who is Dutch and has never toured the US).
3. My TiVo. When words like "revolutionary" are used to describe it, there is no exaggeration.
4. I always have to have a science obsession. It often is related to space, but lately I've been fascinated by fighter jets. Who knows what it'll be next?
5. You guys! (awwww)

Dude, I did essentially the same thing, plus I had a test that day. That was awesome. Also, that kid is a cute one.

When the bee stings.
When I'm feeling sad.

That's not really true (my favorite things include attar of roses and Florentine smiles), but I like to sing the song that way, changing "I simply remember..." to "These are a few of...." I don't know why, but it's made me laugh since I was in grade school.

1. A cold beer after mowing the grass on a hot day (with my reel mower - retro style!)
2. My wife
3. My animal buddies
4. Gardening, and a subset - a tomato fresh out of the garden, still warm from the sun, with its juice running down my chin
5. Wake and bake and take the dog for a walk on a sunny Saturday morning.

These are (just) a few of my favorite things (and I haven't even gotten into food!).
