30 January 2006

Dear Metachat, This weekend I was contacted by a neighborhood resident to come fix her faulty wireless connection. Imagine my surprise when[More:]

the door opens to reveal a pretty young woman! I replaced the really beat to hell CAT-5 cable and her access was restored! We chatted for a bit and then I left.

Then she left a message to ask me what kind of beer I liked [because she offered to pay in beer] and when I called back it turned out that she really just wanted to ask me out! It has since come to light that it was smitten at first sight for each of us, and that the reason she immediately rushed into the kitchen when I arrived is that she had to get ahold of herself. That's the best compliment ever!

[Why did not you ask her out you nutty squirrel you ask? Well, I didn't want to fulfil the double-double of nerdy-tech-guy asking-out-hot-chick-after-fixing-her-computer and Penthouse-letterism. We're dancing the tango tonight [for serious!]

So how was your weekend?
The fact that she told you she had to go compose herself in the kitchen is just so adorable. Gah.

Do you have your telephone number posted somewhere as the go-to guy for tech problems? Are you a member of the Geek Squad? What? What? WHAT?

That's great, sciurus! Did she get the right beer in for you?

(my weekend, esp. Sunday was work work work. blah)

Yaaay what an exciting story!

I run a neighborhood weblog and help out with local grassroots efforts to make my hood have ubiquitous WiFi. And since I do all this for free word gets out and from time to time I get emails asking to help someone out. A couple of the other guys in the project are in the same boat.

I don't have my sights set on something as mundane as beer anymore, gaspode... my new goal is snogging!

How fabulous sciurus! YAY!

Kudos all around.

That's great, sciurus! Hmm, I broke up with my boyfriend this weekend. Perhaps the universe has ordered that there be a certain number of couples in Cleveland at all times, and my breakup made an opening for you and your new lady. You're welcome. :)

Thanks TPS, but it was all for the best.

I've had one of those spurts lately where suddenly I find out that like 5 girls like me, which is usually followed by months of drought, but I think this one that I like is a keeper.

You deserve better than your ex anyway, amro. We should have a Clevo MeChat Meetup and drink Irish Beer and eat Irish food at The Harp or somesuch and sing bawdy songs and make boasts and then break your internet connection so some hot dude will show up to fix it and then your singletude will be naught. OR, we could go to a male strip club and you could have a good time watching all us straight male MechaCleves be uncomfortable.

Thanks, sciurus. Maybe we could have a bawdy singalong with the male strippers...

On to bigger and better things, amro! (wink wink, nudge nudge)

That's a great story sciurus.

I love that story. I love that she was so shaken. (that's just how I felt when I met my "tech guy" - now aka "the husband"!)

Dear Penthouse Forum,
I never thought this could happen to me...

I think the problem is that the technology is just so rife with double entendres.

Hehe, yeah, the whole thing is sort of like a Pizza Delivery porno or something.

I like pool-cleaner stories, myself.

But hey -- this is great! I don't what it is about 2006, but so far, it feels like a very romantic year. I'm hearing a lot of these sorts of stories, and my small circle of friends and myself are seeing more action than we have in ages. Are the planets aligning? Are we finally displaying a healthy response to terror-stress? Who knows? Who cares?

Anyway, best of luck Scirius. She must really be gone on you if she had to leave the room to compose herself. There will definitely be snogging. Enjoy!

Love at first sight: it happens.

Sometimes it happens only once, so don't miss it.

From hellbient's link:
Mr. Blue: I think it was [a subscription] to Fuck Finger. It's a magazine that has pictures of naked men giving you the finger. The idea is kind of like, "Fuck you for looking at a naked picture of me."

That is the best thing ever.

See. Like I've been saying all along. Nerd skills get you laid.

I read recently that this is genuine social trend. Back when it was brawn or power that made men successful and good providers, straight women preferred brawny powerful guys. But now that it's intellectual capital that makes people mints of money, it's hot to be a nerd.
posted by Miko 30 January | 14:58
Yeah miko, but what about the other way around?
posted by matildaben 30 January | 15:10
Shaken, eh? At least she left getting stirred up to you.

Congrats man!
