Space shooters. Inspired by this thread - recomendations for space shooters/games that use a joystick? [More:]
I got a Cyborg Evo to play the DVD version of Wing Commander 4 - but gave up due to technical annoyances.

Any recommendations for space shooters/arcadish flight sims/games that use a joystick?

I grew up playing the Wing Commander, Privateer, and X-wing series. The newer space shooters seem to all have gone to the mouse & keyboard (ugh) rather than using a joystick (or are more sim than arcade ala the X series). I'm not a big fan of flight simulators (anymore).

It sounds like you do not mean space shooters ala Gradius, R-Type, etc. Thus I am of no help in this thread. *jumps out of thread to death*

Sorry. I wish I could help, especially after all the great suggestions and help you gave me, but I don't know a thing about that kind of game.

If you haven't played Freespace 2, you should by all means find a copy. It's IMHO the pinnacle and in some ways last gasp of the genre.

Other than that, though... eh. Genre is mostly dead at this point.

Freespace 2 - that game is playing using a mouse, no (maybe I'm thinking of Freelancer).

Yeah, the genre does seem dead. I've run into re-makes of Privateer or texture updates for Privateer 2. I should make the effort to see how they are. Thanks for the recommend on Freespace 2.

Freespace 2 is best with a joystick. It has very tight gameplay coupled with a good plotline and a great sense of atmosphere.
