13 January 2006

I have a cold, or the 5th cold in a row, or something. [More:]Since the girls started day care and school in September, I have been fighting and losing to one cold after another...I am getting pretty tired of it. Anyone have any immune system boosting tips for the weary?
I hear plastic bubbles are the new black.

I take 2-3 grams of vitamin C a day. My cholesterol has come way down without the risk of statins, and I rarely get sick. Google Linus Pauling and his vitamin C research. A good article here.

2-3 GRAMS? That's like 3000 milligrams right? (I am not real good with the math).

I thought I had read that you end up peeing out anything more that about 500mg?

beaner, I am debating the bubble. Do they come is XXL? I am 6' 3" and all.

I don't take it all at once - same principle as taking calcium. You take it throughout the day so your body can absorb it all.

When I was having major problems with my cholesterol, I started on a statin and within three days was having abdominal pain. I googled "statin side effects" and spent the rest of the day in utter horror at these drugs. I subsequently stumbled upon Pauling's research and began his recommended vitmain program (in fact, I only take about half the vitamin C he recommends...). My good to bad cholesterol ratio doubled, and my triglycerides dropped from over 700 (!) to within the "normal" range. Plus, no colds.

Wow. I shall read that article from beginning to end Mike.

Admit it: you're just staying sick so you won't have to work out.

That's not true. I think the lack of working out is a result of that same old laziness, unrelated to the colds. The colds sure aren't helping though.

Just giving you a hard time! I'm not doing so well myself, and I have no excuses. I took a "holiday break" from a decent diet and working out. Apparently I think that the "holidays" extend into mid-January. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday - let's pig out!

If you exercise, your immune system will improve. But yeah, children are germ factories.

I think president's day is the logical choice to get back on track.

and I can still recognize gear giving when I see it mike!

you tell me this now! ;)

Here's a weird one, My mother = sick as a dog with a cold after I visited (with Perle). My baby Perle = just as sick poor girl, my SO = sicker than hell with teh same annoying cold. Me, nothing.

I have no idea why. I don't even bother much with vitamins and rarely go out. Havent seen the inside of the gym since 1997.

mike9322, you are absolutley right about the holidays by the way. They do extend to mid-jan. Basta!
One week after Twelfth Night the Swedish calendar celebrates the name Knut. Prior to a seventeenth century calendar reform Knut was celebrated on Twelfth Night and marked the end of the holiday season. As a result of the reform Knut was moved forward one week, and since Swedes were accustomed to ending their Christmas holidays on Knut's day, they simply continued celebrating an extra week.

dame: I wondered if you would pop in to point that out. Damn, you ex-sluts are hard to complain to.

The germ factory part or the exercise part? If it makes you feel better, though I am waiting for my next practice with bated breath (T minus 22 hours), I haven't been paid since 16 Dec. Awesome!

The exercise part. The lack of pay on your part is not very comforting to me at all. And, it annoys me on your behalf.

I also just came to the realization that part of the reason I am so grumpy this week is due to one of our senior managers (whom I had zero respect for) leaving to a bigger and getter job. Turns out I am envious, but also currently *afraid* to leave and so am annoyed with myself, which has left me grumpy. Ah, the folly.

and I now realize I would have used the wrong bated/baited previously. damn.
