Axe Mecha: Giving sight to the blind I need new glasses...[More:]how do I go aboot finding an optometrist? I've had the same glasses and no eye exams for about 6 years now (I know, I'm lazy, and deserve to get cataracts, glacouma and eye parasites). My lenses are all scratched up and my perscription is probably a bit wrong.

So, how do I find an optometrist? Just pick one in the phone book at random (Dr. I.M. Notincompetent, humm, he sounds good)? Find a place that has glasses that I like and go to the optometrist next door? Start asking random people on the street if they are eye-doctors?
Hate to say it, but the expensive guys I've found do a better job. Last time I spent $800, but I got really thorough, multiple fittings.

I just went to one of those chain stores (Lens Crafters, etc.) to get mine done, because they were having a sale on cute frames at the time. Haven't needed to go back in a while since I make my contacts stretch out and glasses are awesome for a very long time. This was two years ago, btw.

Eye parasites? Do tell.

Ask your friends. Try not to go with random. In the six years I've lived here, I've gone through 3 of them and finally found one I like.
Doctor A, near home random choice: overly thorough, amazingly begadgeted, extraordinarily expensive.
Doctor B, near work random choice: incompetent (bad prescription)
Doctor C, friends' recommendation: laid back, relatively cheap, totally fine. Horrible looking office in a strip mall next to a Subway; I would never have found him randomly.

I just assumed they exist (I've been watching the first season of House) and they're what you get if you're negligent about your occular health.
