Metachat Trivia: I'd like to start a weekly trivia game here in happyland. Here's how I think it could work:[More:]We'll do it on IRC. Four rounds, 30-40 questions total. First two rounds will be varied questions, the third a 'speed' round, and the final a 'bonus' round. The Quizmaster would type the question, but individual or teams would private the answer to the Quizmaster unless the question is a 'shout-out (first to respond in the chat room wins).' Only one rule: no googling (unless the question is specifically a 'google-fu'). Googling or other 'cheaty' forms of finding the answer other than chatting among your team (if we do teams) kinda spoils the fun. So, whatcha think? I'd like to do the first game Wednesday night, 10pm. Oh, and to keep things interesting from week to week we could we could rotate Quizmasters.

Suggestions, complaints, rotten veggies?
The idea originates from a bar game we have here in town, and the format is essentially the same as that, adapted for IRC.

You can't stop people from cheating (if they want to), but let the karma catch up with them, I say. Sounds great - I'd love something like this, even though I would suck at it.

Do you really want rotten veggies? 'Cause I have some things in my fridge that at this point qualify as pets.

I'd love to be in, depending on what the GMT is and if I'm at home or work. Anyway, we'd need international teams, to ensure that all the pop references weren't US-centric, or *-centric, right?

Sounds like fun to me.

I was thinking this Wednesday, 0000 GMT (7pm EST). Yes, int'l teams would be great, but if we don't have the numbers for teams, we'll do individuals. I'll make the questions general enough that most of them will be broad, general knowledge... and Mefi/Mecha trivia too.

Sounds dangerously fun... since it'll be 4PM here on the Left Coast, will we be able to get Western USians besides myself?

4 works for me, but it probably won't work for people with jobs.

I would be totally down for this.

It won't be a trivia game unless you have teams desperately criss-crossing campus at 4am and tripping over each other at the library entrance.

Sweet, we're on for this Weds., 0030GMT (I love the way that looks). That midnight for our friends in western Europe, and 4 for the west coast (which is kinda meh- I'd be happy to host a west coast round later in the evening, maybe). I'll be Quizmaster for this game. I'll post further details and the rather limited rules the day before.

It's on.

Are we going to have teams, or is it every dumbass for herself?

I guess we'll have to see how many people show up in IRC that night. I'm happy with either way, but 2 person US-Euro teams would be cool to give a decent chance to everybody. Just finished writing the questions... HEH HEH

I wonder if I'll end up paired with UWS. We could call ourselves the Jesus/Casanova complex.
