My Last Audio Post of 2005. And fittingly it's an odd one.

Bob Landers with Willie Joe & his Unitarians - Cherokee Dance.[More:]

All I know is that it was on a compilation of early rock and roll from Specialty records out of LA. It's a nice stampeding stomp of a beat, some Link Wray style fuzz guitar, and vocals right out of the Frogman Henry school of larynx contortion. I wish I knew more of the story behind it (especially the thumpingly weird group name), but it's still a great, fun song. Enjoy & Happy New Year!
Wow, that's both novel and kinda authentic, in an early r'n'r way. Seems the song just kinda tells you how to do it, a la Locomotion. I got a little new info - from, of all places, The Guardian - where they interview a fanboy: the guitarist from PULP!
"Prepare to have your mind blown," he says, laying down a slice of premium rockabilly on his rather temperamental portable record player. "You're going to have to rethink everything now that you've heard this. I can't find anything about him, and he only made this one record, but the sound of it is immense - and it's only one chord."

the lyrics are here.

Good fun find, jonmc!

I can see pulp digging it. That "woo-hoo-hoo" starship stroopers song shows a deep appreciation for basic, slam-bang rawk and roll. And from the interview he sounds like my kinda guy.

My pal gill just said - he's kinda Beefhearty in the vocal. I hear it.

Yeah, although I thing Beefheart was still doodling out in the desert when this came out. Is this an archaelogical signpost of things to come perhaps? Digital cratedigging pays off, I guess.

I picture Chuck Barris doing his coked-out Gong Show dance to this.
