Virtual cigarette break [More:]This is usually the part of the day where jonmc sneaks up behind my desk while I have my earbuds in and either yanks on my ponytail or clamps both hands on my shoulders (scaring the shit out of me, btw), indicating that it's time for us to go downstairs and coat our lungs with tar. But seeing as I'm here in Jersey and he's not, I need to have a virtual smoke break....

...Any takers?
Just got back from one irl.
But, sure, twist my arm.

What are you smoking these days?

Let me tell you all about the career of Eddie & the Phlegmtones. First the early years. Once there were four boys from the small town of Yutztown, Pennsylvania. There were all poor since their fathers worked in the local talcum powder mine. They grew up listening to the the lively polkas of Frankie Yankovic and Myron Floren. Then they saw Elvis on Ed Sullivan and all hell broke loose. A remarkable music fusion was born....

Hey, where ya goin'?

Some of the greatest smokers I've ever met were from Kutztown Pennsylvania.

Yutztown on the other hand... it's rough. That's what killed Eddie, man. Well, that and the endless V8 enemas and Easy Cheese binging. Cut down so soon...

Easy Cheese... that's that cheese in a can stuff, right? I once squirted some in my mouth, just to see what it was like. I could not swig water fast enough.

It's the cheese in a can you spray. it's great on a Ritz.

Easy Cheese was invented in hell.

sasshat: I couldn't agree with you more.

dano: I at least know enough not to do that!

I got active today. I took a shower. And now I'm rewarding myself with a beer. Transit Strikes suck but they can be relaxing.

Smoke break? Like this is when you stop smoking for a little while?

I have a question for taz/dodgy:

When trying to create a new post on MeCha, I got this page after hitting submit:

Recording post...
Done.

Post not publicly published: skipping trackback, pingback and blog pings...

Posting Done...

[Back to posts!]

You may also want to generate static pages or view your blogs...

Then, the post never appears.

I first got this when I tried to post a new thread before Thanksgiving. I've started threads since then, but recently found the file copy I originally was going to post that gave me this message and tried it again. And I got the same error. The post itself did not contain a link, and had a fairly lengty More Inside.... about 300 words or 2000 characters. Did I bump up against some limit?

Sorry to hijack, but this is a metathread anyway and now that I've gotten that posting error it won't let me create a new post.

I think you're witnessing the Tripe Filter at work, doohickie.

I can help: I bumped that limit myself, with a long post about something or other. I think it was dodgygeezer who pointed out, when I brought up my troubles in an unrelated thread, that I could email him or taz or one of the other sysops, and they'd waive the thread length limit, or I could start the post, then copy and paste the bulk of it into the first comment of the post. If you paste quick, you can post and comment almost simultaneously and not worry about some goofball (like me) butting in and stealing your first comment.

I've done this a couple of times; if you need examples, I can find them (but I try to steer clear of the "enjoy my examples" brand of narcissism, preferring less subtle self-displays).

Okay thanks. I don't dare post it now, after this fuss, cuz y'all will be expecting something really worth saving it and then posting it a month later and it really isn't much of a post it was just about the psychology of people who are in transition (i.e., short-timers) but it probably isn't worth an fpp so the heck with it.

*stands back and admires run-on sentence*
