Compulsive Reference Checking I've been watching tv/movies on my PC now, which has led to odd behavior: if any book is ever shown during the course of a show, no matter how briefly, I find myself pausing the show to immediately look up the book on the net to see what it's about. The same if anyone sings any songs.

I just thought y'all would want to know that now, so if they find me naked and gibbering in a room wallpapered in newspaper clippings and incomprehensible diagrams, you could point out this post, and say "Here's where it started".
I am meticulously needlepointing the words of your post into a charming little sampler, which I will mount in a simple yet tasteful frame and hang on the wall of your padded cell.

Too high for you to reach, of course.

In order to diagnose your condition, please answer the following question:

Are you now, or have you ever been in the past, a graduate student?

If you answered yes, I'm afraid that your condition is terminal, and your predicted fate of "gibbering in a room wallpapered in newspaper clippings" is all but assured. However, if you answered no, there's a chance that you can be saved! Shall I dispatch the EMS crew?
I considered becoming a college professor, but gave up because, while I like teaching, I (ironically) didn't think I'd enjoy the research aspect. So the answer is "No, with irony". I think that counts as a medical complication.

I wiki everything. Not a lot else gets done.

I think I had an episode of Penn & Teller's BULLSHIT! paused for only forty-five minutes last night.

I carry this little laptop all over the house. I call it my "brain annex." If I don't know something, I just look it up. If If something comes up when I'm not right near a computer, I will look it up as soon as I get home.

I just hate not knowing things.
