D'oh! A deer. A pumpkin-headed deer. [More:]I think the oddest thing about this is that they won't tranquilize the deer in case someone eats it. They want to save its life, but in a way that doesn't interfere with its eventually being killed.
I think the greatest thing about this is your post title.

Remarkable. Thanks for this.

The can't shoot it with a tranquilizer, because if the rescued deer is shot within 30 days the meat would be poison.

Wow. Between Black bears getting shot by 8 year old girls and deer getting their heads cought in large vegetables.....Wild Life are having the Worst Week Ever.

Terribly sad story. :( (Though I'll allow the title is funny!)

When I was quite young and vacationing with my family, we saw a kitten outside our hotel room with a sandwich bag stuck on its head - must have been investigating some food or crumbs left in it. I tried to get close enough to the little fella to get it off, but poor thing was spooked and ran off. I cried and cried and cried.

Years later, my mother told me that it was at that moment she knew I'd end up vegetarian.

Cought: v. 1. Captured with hollow orange spheres. 2. Arrested, captivated by traffic cones. 3. Ensnared by seasonal vegetables.

Mr. Wiggens got cought while bobbing for watermelon during the picnic.

Is the ght pronounced like an f? Buzz Lightyear and his gang were coft trying to disguise themselves on the way to Al's Toy Barn?

Tr33hggr, I am sure the kitten probably freed itself. They're resourceful little buggers. :-)

You're my new hero. You also referenced The Simpsons:

(while driving in the car, homer sees and narrowly avoids hitting a deer that jumps in front of the car)

Homer: D'oh!
Marge: A deer!
Lisa: A female deer!

Iconomy, I don't think I've had an original thought since the Simpsons premiered. Half the things that come out of my mouth are Simpsons references. (The Kids in the Hall run a distant second.)

jrossi, there was a South Park episode on last night (or was it the night before?) where Butters kept trying to come up with evil things to do but they'd always been done on the Simpsons.

And the pumpkin headed deer is making me sad.

I hope they capture the deer and get the thingie off. Can you imagine what it's going through?

Having actually read the article now ... the tranquilizer thing is silly. Why can't they just tag it with some kind of warning about eating it?

(Or just put the thing out of it's misery, sorry...in most places deer should be culled at every opportunity.)

I once watched a deer eat a banana.

Seriously.
