The randomiser thread killed WMP Okay, so during my 8th random song (Wilco, In a Future Age), my Windows Media playback started skipping. [More:]
Sounded just like a bad CD, but the music was coming from my local drive.

Then the sound stopped altogether. WMP showed that the music played on -- but no sound.

I can stream music through the net and can play just fine from ITunes. Local sounds are still around. Sound card's okay.

Reinstalled WMP10 and still no sound.

What happened? How to fix?

A fix for dummies (me, not you) that works sometimes - just reboot. This same exact thing happened to my winamp 2x this month, for absolutely no reason - songs just started skipping. Both times just turning the computer off and then back on "fixed" it, and I did it as a last resport the first time it happened, because no amount of fooling around with winamp got me anywhere.

Restarted immediately after it happened, but maybe the second time's the charm....

Um, never mind, it muted itself.
