That's nothing. My friend in Baltimore -- who works, it should be noted, in a high-tech office park and not a swamp shack -- had a copperhead snake in his cubicle area.

I like to have died.

I'm pretty sure that was the death of that squirrel. Kind of a shitty video in my opinion. Watching an animal jump to its death in terror. No thanks.

cjorg, didn't you see the squirrel running around in the patio beneath the window? Little dude was still going strong. I'm not surprised he made it, I've seen squirrels biff the landing in my backyard two stories up and shake it off. Squirrels are surprisingly hardy creatures, much to my dog's chagrin, who has vowed to exterminate all the squirrels.

Additional note, we've had a bumper crop of copperheads around these parts this summer. I am not personally squicked by them, but I worry about my dog, she's already stepped on one (luckily she escaped being bitten).

Yeah, I think he was okay.

I once saw a squirrel fall a good 30' out of a tree. He wasn't moving and I thought he was a goner, but after about half a minute he suddenly sat upright. You could see his little rodent brain reboot (took about 10 seconds) and then he scampered away pertly.

I was worried when the camera went over the edge of the window to see down because I really didn't want to see squashed squirrel guts, but I'm happy he seems to have made it just fine.

Yeah, I think he was okay too. He was running around just fine. I don't speak German (was that German? I'm not even sure of that - ) but I think that's pretty much what the guy who took the video was exclaiming about: squirrel with a magic parachute.

I empathize with this guy because over the last four months I've dealt with
a) the dogs killing a small possum in the yard - and then bringing the body up to the porch
b) the dogs almost but not quite killing a gigantic groundhog in the yard; we had to kill it, it was awful, I may never recover
c) a small snake showing up in my extremely snake phobic daughter's bedroom
d) the dogs killing a small squirrel on the porch which was completely horrifying and then segued into a probably related squirrel (maybe they fell out of a nest?) somewhere out in the darkness screaming, I mean screaming, like a child for hours later on and
e) the night before last, when my daughter thought she heard a prowler and we turned on the porch light to be confronted by a very large and annoyed possum who was chilling out on a porch chair. That required a whole lot of scurrying to keep dogs and cat inside and possum outside and holy shit, they are some scary prehistoric looking creatures.
In a related note, I want to pave my backyard, coat it in megawatt floodlights and surround it with a 15 foot concrete fence, a moat and some razor wire.
