Getting ready to go into work. It should be another busy day like yesterday since the holiday brings out extra customers. When I got home yesterday I could do little more than sit and prop up my feet.

Gave Ms Nibs lots of play time this morning since I was too tired last night. She's happily snoozing away in one of her favorite places.

I'm hoping to treat myself to something nice to eat tonight. Don't know what that'll be. If nothing else, I plan on a glass of wine and big old tub soak when I get home!

The baby went back to sleep after his feeding but I am still awake! WTF? I guess I really am a mother now.

I really should get in the shower while he is sleeping. Instead I am farting around online.

Mohawkfest 2012 was a success; I have a fabulous Mohawk (well, fauxhawk) now. I might need some new products to help shape it. But first I will check under my sink to see what I already have. It's a goldmine down there.

Stynxno is preaching this morning. Wish the service was at 10, since I'm already up. It's a holiday weekend, they could cut back to just one service (10 instead of 9 and 11). But alas, it's at 11. I hope I don't lose my momentum before them.

New alcohol of choice: Moscato. Particularly if it is bubbly.

No plans for tomorrow. Maybe we will figure out some sort of adventure. Or maybe I will make Stynxno entertain the baby while I sleep.

Yesterday was a 40th birthday party with a carnival/Star Wars/kittycat theme. (Yup.) But it was FUN: carnival games, fair food*, a visit by Chewbacca, and calliope music.

Turns out that The Fella knows how to operate all the carnival stuff except the cotton candy machine, by which I mean he had to examine the cotton candy machine for about 90 seconds before whipping out professional-looking clouds of cotton candy. He really has the knack! The rest of us all turned out wads of congealed fluff that tasted fine but looked like insulation. So he manned the cotton candy machine all afternoon while I spun various children around until we all got falling-down dizzy.

I had: a lobster roll, a taco, a hamburger, a hot dog, lemonade, Coke, potato chips, jalepeno poppers, popcorn, cookies, a candy apple, and, for the first time ever, too much cotton candy. My apologies to the creator of the Chewbacca birthday cake; I was too full for cake. [GASP! I know.]

1. Currently at work. Until 630. It's likely to be slow so I'll have time to get some other stuff done. But I do have tomorrow off, which is exciting. I'm hoping I can sleep in a bit.

2. Foot does seem to be a bit better after a visit to the doctor and a scrip for 800mg ibuprofen tabs. I've got a followup on Thursday. Still hurts a bit, but that's probably because I was doing a lot of walking shopping this weekend.

3. I have a bunch of dissertations to process. And boxes to sort, but I didn't get any reply from my person if my series were appropriate or not. So I can see that is going to get bumped to later this week.

4. I brought my BOS to work on today because I have been slacking at putting my notes into it all nice. And I need to actually write the history section. And I need to update the wiki.

5. Fall nesting is in full swing. I decorated my altars for fall last night and have already whipped out an apple cinnamon candle. I need to harvest my herbs, which I'll probably do tonight. Also, I need to do a full house cleaning.

6. This month is going to be crazypants. I'm doing a ton of traveling, including boarding Anubis for a weekend.

TPS: Moscato is my favvvvvvvvvvvorite.

1. I think I broke my toe last night after stubbing it on a couch leg last night. It's bright purple and hurts to walk on. I've been icing it every hour or so, which seems to help.

2. I'm house- and cat-sitting (hence the unfamiliarity with the couch legs). Two adorably giant Maine Coon cats, one tabby (currently purring on my lap) and one calico (who deigned to sleep on the bed with me last night).

3. My weekend plans were pretty much to hang out with the cats and watch tv, so that at least fits in with the icing and resting of my toe.

4. I'm hungry but don't feel like going through any of the steps that would be required to eat. I expect the hunger will eventually win, and I can drive myself to brunch. I'm glad I packed my sneakers; flip flops plus broken toe seem like a bad combination.

I looked at both US and UK medical websites (like, WebMD and NHS), and they both said give it a few days of rest and icing. If it continues to get worse, then check with a doctor. Apparently, unless it's severely broken (sticking out at a weird angle, etc.), doctors can't do much other than splint it, which I can also do myself (and will later today).

The NHS actually has good triage information online, and I do tend to trust it more since it's coming from a free-care / less-litigious place -- I worry that the US sites are going to tend toward either "GO TO THE ER NOW!" for everything so that no one sues them, or else "Eh, suck it up" because they know medical care's expensive.

Anyway. I have insurance; if I need care, I'll go get it. I think it's just at a wait-and-see place right now.

Occhiblu- feel better!
Jouke- common wisdom around here is that there isn't much that can b done for a broken toe anyway so mostly people just suck it up and tape it to the next toe as the doctor would have probably done anyway.
TPS- I love moscato too! Apparently all the rappers are into it now as well.

1. Went to my dads for a day and a half which was mostly fun but there was a lot of wedding planning for him and his fiancée that they wanted me to help with since I am the only organized one around. I thought we were going to watch a movie on Friday or something but it was just 5 hours of logistics instead.

2. Got to go cake tasting with them at least! Their cake is going to be awesome. There is a tiny bakery near them called Au Petits Delices where we went and they are getting a vanilla sponge cake which was the lightest best cake ever layered with a chocolate mousse.

3. Now back in ny and in bed because this annoying cough/ sinus infection keeps coming back. I should doctor up but I am in between insurances or a week o I will just wait or my new one to kick in.

4. Starting my new job on Tuesday! Excited and a little nervous. I feel like the housecne I are not ready. I will be working from home and I don't really have a proper setup yet, whatever that should be. I have a cluttered desk and a room to work in and Internet, but I have to figure out if I need to get a landline since my cell doesn't get awesome rcption in here. Also, do I need a printer? I probably need a scanner. Should I go on craigslist or get a new one?

I have the house to myself for the next ten days. Since the other two occupants are also disabled, such moments are rare. "Clothes optional" requires so much less energy.

Sookie got her final growth spurt over the summer like I expected, and now she is her full adult size. She is also by far the stupidest cat I have ever known, and I have known many cats, having once lived in a cat sanctuary. I suspect her vision may not be all that great.

The soreness that goes with having a gym trainer takes two days to leave. Hopefully the bulk of that will decline over the next month.

I haven't yet decided whether or not to blow my diet over the holiday weekend, but it is still early enough to go get a "big stupid breakfast".

Occhi, I hope the ice helps..I once slammed my little toe right into my own bedframe (so I can't even use unfamiliarity as an excuse) and it turned purple and hurt like heck. I preferred flip flops as it hurt too much in sneakers so be cautious slipping into shoes!

1. Day 1 of two days off! I need to clean around the house, but I've only gotten so far as sweeping the hallway and doing one load of laundry.

2. Took my remaining school aged child for a little back to school shopping - he's quite easy to pick stuff out with. Driving to and from the store took longer than the actual shopping.

3. Tomorrow - fossil hunting at a place I've never tried before!

I hope your toe feels better soon, occhiblu.

4. This weekend has been a bust productivity wise. I always have the best of intentions but they just float away.

3. And it doesn't help that the floor part of my dyson dc35 isn't turning despite a serious cleaning.

2. Listening to the thunder and wondering when the rain will start back up.

1. They oversalted the chips at Qdoba today.

0. I have a triffid growing in my front flower bed. Now that I have new garden gloves I really should go cut it down.

Thanks, all. Toe is splinted (taped to its neighbor toe). Sneakers have been ok, probably because it's one of the middle toes so it's protected a bit, plus it didn't really swell too much. Got brunch (felt silly driving three blocks) and now I'm back on the couch and the cat's back on my lap.

- It feels like I have a cold coming on (sneezing and sore throat). I WILL NOT allow this to keep from seeing King Tut. I won't, I won't, I won't!!

- The mister got our new ceiling fan up and working. Ugly chandelier is history!

- The mister and I were going to go shopping, but the mister ended up going solo. We realized it is the last long weekend before school starts and it will be a zoo out there. I don't do well in crowds. It's much safer for everyone to have me stay home.

- We've watched the first half of season one of Deadwood. Those motherfucking cocksuckers sure do swear a lot. We also have season two of Weeds waiting to be watched. Yay! Still a long wait until we get season three of True Blood. Boo!

Sorry about your toe, occhi--

This is a nice, relaxed weekend for me. I keep thinking there's stuff I need to do for the start of the new school year, but not really. I need to know what I'll be teaching (grades; AP or not; double periods or not; levels; ESL/special Ed needs) before I do further prep. The administration was supposed to give us at least a tentative schedule back in June, but no such luck. We likely won't know what we're teaching until the day before classes start. Sometimes they're still switching kids around a month into the school year. But it's good to just go with the flow I guess, save your energy.

I am delighted that one of my Donors Choose projects for books was funded (thank you pinky for the Facebook promotion, and 'pode for the generous donation!). I'm trying to build up our classroom library especially, which was pretty paltry last year. I know the students will be excited to see the new books. And I'm trying to spend less of my own money this year. The city's only planning to reimburse teachers about $45 for supplies this year (that's less than fifty cents a kid for me). Although I suppose it's better than last year, when we got nothing. Any books, audio books, paper, pens, notebooks, art supplies came out of the teachers' own pockets or we did without.

On a brighter note, I'm enjoying my last weekend, watching the US Open and napping. My job may not pay all that great, but I do get the summer off!

(Oh man, I f*cking love Deadwood--)

Sorry about the toe, Occhi!

Al Swearengen is quite the philosopher, and I find his advice about not mincing words to be applicable in many situations. Damn San Francisco cocksuckers.

Where was I? Yes, the weekend. Friday night we saw the Bourne Legacy at the local multiplex, we both enjoyed it more than we thought we would. Hooray for low expectations!
Saturday morning we drove to the beach to spend the holiday weekend with the in-laws. College football ruled the day.
Today is hot as shit and I can't be arsed to do much besides drink lemonade and sit on the back porch and read. Tomorrow we'll have a picnic.

1. We went to the Yankees (Orioles!) game as well. Yay for the O's winning!

2. Grilling tomorrow.

3. My mother is in town from New Zealand. Constantly checking myself to not fall into my normal bad attitude about her. It's difficult.

1. I have a totally decadent Monday planned for myself. 50 minute facial, 80 minute shiatsu massage, 25 minute body polish. I'm really looking forward to the treat.

2. The bf got his interview suit delivered today, so he tried on the whole shebang with the new shirt and tie and shoes. He looked amazing, and we had martinis in the suit just to be sure it worked ok.

3. Grilling hanger steak with the upstairs neighbors for Monday BBQ. Yes, we are SF foodie assholes.

How was the Gorey House, brujita? That's been vaguely on my list for a while.

1. Just got back into Witch City after a week's vacation on the Jersey Shore with my family. My heart is full; I love my family and just wish there was a way we could all live closer together. It's heartbreaking to pull myself away from them.

2. But came back to LT and our remaining cat, this small nucleus of a family which is a solid starting point but which I surely hope will grow. Happy to see them both, and my own little nest in the world.

3. In the vast and strange American culture, so glad to have all of you, and your courageous individual forays into getting it together, getting by, getting along, and the like. You are all very special, unusual people who I'm grateful to have in my life, whether just by what you write and share, or when we've met. You're all brave and kind and friendly and helpful, so thanks.

1. I'm now a whole week without my computer. Though it's only been back with the manufacturer since Wednesday. It's going to be at least another week. Typing on a iPod is rough. I'm not going to buy a secondary one, though. I'm going to tough it out.

2. I had a dream that I had a bunch of people telling me to write my crush a letter or send him a gift to let him know how I felt about him and it would somehow make everything better. Then I woke up and was like "no, no, no, no, no."

3. If my father doesn't get one more sale by the end of Tuesday, he's going to be fired from his job. Positive thoughts in our general direction would be appreciated.

1. I am >this< close to achieving level 85, just in time for the new WoW expansion which goes live 5 days after my birthday. No one who knows me will be surprised that my first Pandaren character will be a red one with the name Kielle. I hope no one grabs that name before I do.

2. Yesterday, we went to a BBQ hosted by the head lawyer of the Volunteer Lawyer's Project of Brooklyn. Met and talked with a few people in the party, but because I wasn't feeling extroverted enough, we left after an hour and a half.

3. On our way home from the BBQ, we passed by a small group of people shooting a scene which required the use of a smoke machine. After a few takes which included one of the main actors coughing a lot, I inquired about the project and found out it was an episode of something called "Gwen and Mina's Puppetopia." They totally need a real website, but the premise looks interesting. And even if I didn't hear the dialogue, I think that scene passed the Bechdel test!

4. Tomorrow, I find out if the assistant who was thinking of retiring will give her notice and if I will get her job. I have literally been waiting all summer for this day. All my appendages are crossed, but some additional mojo could really help!
