The teacher involved shot back that they are using rigging that hoists timber, they are professors, etc etc etc. It is still not a good idea, in my book. Yikes, I'd be appalled to learn that my (hypothetical) kid had been hoisted on rigging designed by in-house non-professionals --- not just because it's a bad idea in itself, but because it tacitly communicates to the kids "This is not a specialized skill; feel free to improvise flight simulation rigging on your own just like we did!"
