I don't either...we used to do Hannukah when we were young, but now my brothers just do it for their kids alone. It never was a giant deal anyway.

My family always celebrated "Christmas" minus any religious significance. This year I'm not doing shit. Other then not being able to order food today or tomorrow, it's basically a long weekend.

The only problem is, I don't have any food in my apartment! Today I ate some plain rice that I've had stored for almost a year. I bought it when I was super-poor and today I ate some.

I suppose pizza hut is open, but the *minimum* order is like 4k food Calories, so fuck that. (four million metric calories, by the way. That’s the energy it takes to heat up one gram of water by 1 degree centigrade).

I celebrate Secular Vacation and Gift Exchange Day on the 25th. I don't really believe in Christ, and I don't believe that it's likely that the 25th was his birthday anyway, and even further that the Roman calendar would be the best approximation of his birthday.
But Christmas tends to fall on Secular Vacation and Gift Exchange Day so I don't really correct people who insist on wishing me a merry Christmas. The only thing that does vaguely annoy me is how much the culture caters to the idea of "Christmas Specials" in media and etc. I can only imagine that when a cartoon, say like the Fairly Oddparents, has a plot where all the children of the world come together to save Christmas, even the ethnically Asian or Arab kids who are unlikely to celebrate, it must seem fairly insulting to those who don't have the Christian bug. I kinda wince, feeling like Christmas is a well-meaning but drunk uncle. I like the idea of peace and goodwill, and I'd love to have an explicitly secular day of gift-giving and well-wishing, but I think that a lot of the power of Christmas is tied up in a pretty primative mythology and I'm not quite sure how to separate things...

Actually, I'm an equal opportunity holidayist. I'm just too forgetful to keep track of everything, but do celebrate what is on my mind at any given moment. Everytime I see purple in December I think of Saturnalia, though.
