I cooked today! It was big haps. A hearty beef stew and whole wheat rolls. The kid and I made a pumpkin pie for dessert. Washed it down with some Hoegaarden beer (a massive splurge for us).

I have never had a red bean bun. What do they taste like?

You know, I forgot to eat dinner!

Oh well. It was a weird day. I started cooking yesterday afternoon- lasagna and chili and pinto beans- for a mission thingy our youth group did. We served about 200 people today at Church Under the Bridge in Waco, Texas. It was a good change of pace from my normal church in comfy suburbia. The message was from the heart; it gave me a lot to think about. The subject was suffering- and I could see people all around me that truly knew what suffering was about. Made me feel kinda overpriviledged.

I had a large chilli from Wendy's.

Then I jogged. Now I have "ketosis mouth" and brushing my teeth and scraping my tongue only helped for a little while. Usually the taste is not too bad but it is horrible at the moment. Diet root beer is only sorta helping.

Oh, since I shared my funny mouth taste, I will share something else. If you are trying to lose weight it is good to stay away from any diet drinks that have citric acid in them as they tend to kick a lot of people out of ketosis. Diet A&W Root Beer and Diet Dr Pepper are both free of it, but most others have it. Yes.

I generally don't eat dinner because of a stomach condition, but I had HOME MADE SAUSAGE for breakfast this morning. Yesterday my sis and I made over 8 lbs of deeeelish spicy sausage.

Based on
IOWA FARM SAUSAGE
From Bruce Aidells’ Complete Sausage Book

To 1# meat mixture (60% pork, 40% bacon)
1 tsp fresh basil
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
3 tsp finely chopped fresh parsley
1/2 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
3 tsp finely chopped onion 1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp minced garlic
3/4 tsp ground dried wild sage
4 tsp water
1/2 tsp ground dried cooking sage
1 1/2 tsp fresh thyme

Grind the meat and fat together through a 1/8 or 1/4 inch plate. In a large bowl, mix the ground meat and fat with the parsley, onion, salt, sage, thyme, basil, red pepper, black pepper, ginger, garlic and water. Knead and squeeze the mixture until everything is well blended. This fresh sausage will keep in the refrigerator for three days or in the freezer for 2 months.

This recipe is the result of fine tuning this query to AskMe

I'm posting it here in the hopes that somebody has a contact for jadepearl

Next week we will be squeezing about 20 gallons of cider. It's winter! Let's eat!
