You ever been awakened by a full bladder at 4 in the morning? Well, frequent urination is when you have to pee AGAIN before you fall back asleep.

I've read that you should urinate about once an hour if you are proprely and optimally hydrated. So abnormally frequent would have to be something more than that (assuming you are well hydrated).

I think frequent equals "more than usual."

If that's the case, how much urination is constant urination?

I don't think I agree with teece. Once an hour is too often, even post pregnancy kinda thing. You only make about 40 or 50 mls an hour and pee about 300-400mls a time generally (2 cups or a bit less). So it's like 3 or 4 or 5 times a day (depending on weather, intake among other less important variables)

Frequency is more to do with wanting to go a lot and then only producing a squidge. And it's usually indicative of an infection.

So drink heaps and pee heaps and that will promote the least favourable environment for any nasty replicating bug who takes a fancy to you.

Now....I must go.

peacay could very well be right -- I am no expert. I know I have read the once an hour thing, but it may have been in the context of athletic exertion, which may mean much more hydration. I dunno.

Polyuria is definite when it's more than 20 "calls to void" per day. It's not always an indication of a disease state - you can intentionally drink a lot of water and pee 30 times - but when it's 20+ and the person's not trying, there's usually something wrong.

Nocturia is greater than 2 getting-up-to-urinate events during a night of sleeping.

I get paid to know this stuff. Ain't life grand?
