Bugmenot says that it will remove the paid content services accounts if emailed at least - however I've emailed them four times and there's still five ad-rag.com accounts on their list. Seems they don't really give a fuck, even though their terms say "You will not submit login accounts for pay-per-view accounts or any other form of paid content access."*
What really bothers me though, is the community bit being broken by it - it doesn't say anywhere "get your own fucking login at a community please". ;) The only reason I discovered ad-rag on there was because one account person was not sounding like the same person with every comment they made, and they started setting off alarms by logging in from several different continents (which just isn't likely for one user to do). Sure enough, that be a bugmenot one. So this person turns out to have been at least five. *shrug*
* Unlike Metafilters current incarnation one does not need to fork out cash to get an account at ad-rag.com, only if one wants an upgrade to view the films. The account itself is free just like any other community site and allows for commenting, chatting with other users, and other prefs just like any other community. Perhaps this is what is confusing bugmenot? Either way they have not once responded to my emails where I ask them to please remove ad-rag.com from their lists. I'm polite and all so I don't really get that.

Blogger.com, TypeKey.

Oh god, I just had a horrible (marketing) thought. If bugmenot allows for community "personas" to exist in their loginDB untouched (forever), 'advertising' buzz agent types can use them to plant virals and astroturf stuff in various communities without looking so obvious like their shiny new n00b accounts usually do. Gaaaah!
If I were evil, I'd start a seminar tour and write a book on that crap right now and make a killing.

Yep, and reading that thread again I have no idea what went on. (This MonkeyFilter thread might clear things up, but I couldn't bear reading past the inane nonsense of the first few comments.)

And like omiewise says, it's just odd that anyone would post login details for community sites at bugmenot.

I asked bugmenot to remove accounts for this very site and they happily obliged. They also say they put us on the banned list but that's harder to confirm. The key is that this site does not hide anything from unregistered users and ultimately that's the only legitimate purpose for bugmenot.

I totally agree with what omiewise and jack_mo said already, it's plain weird to be putting community user accounts in the bugmenot widget. But it seems that people do, blogspot.com, Flickr, blogshares bloggerforum... photobucket, del.icio.us, shutterfly, bloglines, gravatar, typekey etc and so on.
....And that Metafilter thing, wasn't that some user who found someone elses password and then bugmenotted all their accounts in some warped revenge move? That thread makes me dizzy. ;)
Dodgy, that's nice that they were so accommodating to you, I wish I could say that I had the same experience. *shrug*
