This is the place for things on the site that need to be fixed, features that need to be added, etc. Please don't be upset if your request is rejected.

A quick note from dodgygeezer: It may look to the untrained eye that none of these things are getting sorted out. I'm currently working hard on all of these things and more. Watch this space and keep 'em coming.

Post-comment positioning

After clicking on "post", it would be cool if we were returned to the bottom of the page, rather than the top. You, know, so we can cringe over that typo we just missed 3 seconds earlier, because we don't have to scroll all the way down the page - dg

Thread Watch

Right now, the author of a thread could can be emailed when a comment is posted to a their thread. It would be nice if anyone could watch a thread like this. Per-thread RSS feeds would be even super-fantasticer, but probably not worth the effort. --Capn

See ourselves as others see us

This is minor, and a feature request, but can we make it so when you go to your own profile, you see what it looks like to other users?

Camel Case Usernames and duplicate pages

It appears that some users have duplicate pages, depending on the case-sensitivity of their username, eg WolfDaddy has a page as does Wolfdaddy. The former spelling is correct, but all the cool information about me appears under Wolfdaddy. Dodgy informs me that Wiki doesn't like this kind of formatting so pooh. Never mind </Emily Litella>

Avoiding the dreaded double post

Some of us have spastic fingers. Any way to keep accidental double clicks on the "Post" button from turning into the dreaded double comment? --Cmonkey 19:12, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Time zones

Pagination for archive pages

Radio status on front page

Would it be possible to show whether the radio is broadcasting or not (and who is broadcasting) on the front page under the Radio Mecha link, so the users don't have to click over to that page just to check status?

Should be do-able. I'll look into it - Dodgy

Fix Prev||Next

Change DB error message

Change Long post error / mail admin

Search sortable by date

(e.g., so we can find the earliest instance of Snakes on a Plane)

Show/Hide Images could bring you back to the thread you were viewing

instead of back to the mainpage. That would be nifty.

Add link to AbeBooks

Can the person who entered this request please clarify specifically what you want it to do? Do you want just a sidebar link, or something fancy where it auto-links when someone posts a book title or something like that?

Heh heh. Sorry, I added this as a simple prompt for myself but if anyone is interested in the original discussion it's here. --Dodgygeezer 22:11, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Completed

Admin/site specific section

Things move so fast around here that I sometimes wish there were a separate page dedicated just to site announcements. For instance, a place to explain the move to sinless, or a new feature. I hesitate to use it as an example, because callouts are the farthest thing from my mind, but a kind of MetaTalk for MetaChat.

See the Current events page for this kind of announcement. --Matildaben 12:01, 26 January 2006 (EST)

Yeah, just found it.OmieWise 11:49, 27 January 2006 (EST)

OK, we'll consider this done then --Dodgygeezer 11:56, 27 January 2006 (EST)

(x new) comments doodad

I may be mistaken, but I am pretty sure we used to have this. As I am old and my memory is failing, I find it hard to remember the number of comments in every thread and have to check to see if there are any new comments all the time, to be sure I don't miss a single golden word.

Done --Dodgygeezer 21:37, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Bring "my comments" back

I miss it so very much :( --Cmonkey 21:19, 17 January 2006 (EST)

I miss it, too. love, shmeg.

I think this is back now, eh? --Matildaben 23:02, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

if it's the comment link in the profile page that mr monkey is referring to, then it's back --Dodgygeezer 22:03, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

May we have the pre tag enabled?

Also done --Dodgygeezer 22:01, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Metachat Radio Page CSS Display in Firefox 1.5

Please get rid of the black horizontal lines in Firefox 1.5 on the Radio page.

Took a while to figure out, but, yay! - finally fixed! --Taz

Upper Case, Lower Case

Every time I edit my profile, it resets my username to lowercase, when it is a proper noun and should be uppercase. Does the site not recognize capitals in usernames (like livejournal)? I'm sorry taz has to reset it every time it goes lowercase; is there a way to fix the site permanently?

fixed - --Dodgygeezer 23:12, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Rejected

Mecha recipes

We've had so many recipe threads, we could just copy and paste em right into the wiki, and folks could add their own.

This is exactly the sort of thing the wiki exists for, however there's already a blog for this. If the good folk of Metachat want to move it here then it'll be very welcome! - Dodgy

That would be cool with me, I'm kind of lazy about updating the blog. (But I generally add anyone who emails me and wants to be a blog contributor within a day or so, so they can add their own stuff) --kellydamnit

Let's keep it how it is and if you ever get bored of maintaining it then it can be moved over here. Until then you're doing a great job. Thanks. - Dodgy

Spell check returns asp error

Sorry but that's run by an external website so I can't fix it. Do not fear, I'm sure they'll fix it soon enough. In the meantime, if you use Firefox, try Spellbound as an alternative.

Straight Post Button

Since so many of the comments here are so short and pithy, I wonder if it would be possible to have a button that bypasses preview?

I'm not keen on this idea. Once page loads are faster then this'll be less of an issue anyway. --Dodgygeezer 11:59, 27 January 2006 (EST)

Cool!--OmieWise 14:38, 27 January 2006 (EST)

Archive bug

When clicking on the archive page (e.g., http://metachat.org/index.php/2005/11/) the following error comes up [chopped rest of note]

I've moved this down here because it'll be fixed when the archive page pagination goes in, which is still on the to do list above --Dodgygeezer 22:25, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Totally makes sense. Thanks. --Matildaben 21:04, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Pretty up page after posting

The page that comes up after posting doesn't have a title, and I'd like to suggest it just redirect back to a refreshed front page with the new post showing instead of [chopped unnecessary info]

This is just distracting me up there. There's absolutely 100%, no way this won't be done so I'm just taking it off the list. I know that seems weird but just trust me on this one. --Dodgygeezer 22:34, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

I trust your judgment. Thanks! --Matildaben 21:05, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Enclosure Field for MP3 postings

Then we could have a Mecha podcast. Also, would make it easier to download all the great music suggested automagically with a podcast catcher like iPodder. But actually, this wouldn't work so well since most of y'all YSI so feel free to ignore.

Sorry, I'm not going to do this one --Dodgygeezer 23:14, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Fix duplicate listing of matildaben's name on the IRC list

I don't suppose I need to explain this one --Dodgygeezer 23:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Show Preview

Can we make Show Preview mandatory on the wiki (as it is on the site)? Fewer changes make patrolling for vandalism easier.

I'd rather not since people may be used to working without it. It might be worth reminding people to preview often (including me!). By the way you can group changes to a single page from the page's history --Dodgygeezer 23:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Birthday Shoutouts

Now that we are collecting MeChas' birthdays, it would be bitchin' if the front page would send birthday shoutouts.

There's something about storing peoples birthdays in the database that I feel a bit uncomfortable about for some reason. And birthday greetings from a computer seem a little impersonal. Hmmm.. I'm not convinced --Dodgygeezer 23:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Long Name User Profiles

It sure would be nice if others could read my user profile on MetaChat. --Its raining 16:44, 1 March 2006 (UTC) ok, i've put in a fix for this - --Dodgygeezer 15:20, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
