Book Club Page

This book club meets every 4-8 weeks in a MetaChat thread to talk about the current book. The book club is currently tracking the Open Yale Course on The American Novel Since 1945. Here is the syllabus. Aren't you glad we aren't responsible for writing any papers or taking a final exam?

The way this works is that you read the current book, read or watch or listen to the associated lecture by Professor Amy Hungerford or her guest lecturer, then join the MetaChat thread about the book.

We're currently reading J.D. Salinger's [Frannie and Zooey], then reviewing Professor Hungerford's lecture on the book. The MetaChat discussion will take place on 10/18/10.

History of the Book Club This book club was started by Shothotbot, and continued by bearwife [5] Please contact bearwife via memail at MetaFilter with any questions or concerns. It is fine to propose jumping ahead to another book in the syllabus in a discussion thread here in MeCha. If there is a dispute, majority vote wins. Until we finish the current syllabus of the Open Yale course, however, book club choices will be drawn from it. After that, it would be great to choose other books to discuss.

My plan is then to wait until close to 10/18 and put up a quick reminder at that time in MeTa of the 10/18 discussion, as well as the information that the next book and timing of the next discussion will be hashed out here in MeCha around 10/25.
