Life in the time of Covid. What's happening? Anything new?
[More:]
I find I have been buying more books. Physical books. Over the past year I have been reading a bit less but I have been buying more actual books rather than just ebooks.

Also, I have been subscribing to more magazines. It started a couple of years back, the desire to read and hold actual paper magazines, and it has only intensified in the past year.

I have not been reading books which is not normal for me. I lost the ability to focus on a book/had just finished a delicious series and cannot find anything to grab onto or be immersed under its spell. Maybe the pandemic broke my leisure-brain because daus were so ....weird.

I also am slammed busy right now so don't have much time available.

I love physical books and don't e-read anything (other than websites.)

The tactile sensation of holding a book triggers my sense of "me time" and denial of chores or worries.

I just saw the Oscar nominees today. I have completely dropped out television and movies this year. This is the first time I have not seen even one nominated movie and I haven't even heard of most of them. I think I have aged out.

I've not been reading as much either, I think because my job involves so much reading that I feel burned out by the end of the day.

I made an appointment to have a retinal scan, which is on 30 April. I had one in November at my last eye appointment, and the ophthalmologist said there was slight age-related vitreal detachment - which is where the 'bag' holding the vitrious fluid in the eye starts to come away from the back of the eye. About ten days ago I noticed a 'floater' in my right eye. I thought at first it was a bit of fluff on my eyelashes, but it moved as my eye moved. A little googling suggested that it is a symptom of vitreal detachment, so I suspect that what was spotted last November has worsened. I don't have any issues affecting peripheral vision, nor any 'flashes' in my eyes which Dr Google suggests might be symptoms of something more serious. But it's best to get it checked out. Apparently if it is just age-related, there's nothing that can be done about it. I've found my brain is increasingly tuning out the floater, so I only really notice it if I'm looking at a computer screen or reading.

I've been busy in the garden, tidying, getting things ready for planting. We're due a cold snap this week, so I'm holding off planting or sowing until the weather warms up - and stays warm.

The only Oscar film I've seen this year is Nomadland, which I streamed. It is wonderful and deserves to win every award it's been nominated for.

Senyar, I experienced a sudden partial vitreal detachment about 3 years ago. I had a "web" across my vision along with flashing lights. It was, of course, during a long holiday weekend....I drove myself an hour trip to the emergency department because that was the only recourse. It was pretty scary to be alone for this when I was afraidit was a complete detachment.

I have only slight vision loss and have no problems with the other eye. It's not as bad as a full retinal detachment (which is an emergency surgery situation.)

So, good that you're getting it checked on with a doc who can help if it happens to go bad. I ended up with several follow up visits with a retinal specialist who was extremely helpful in explaining exactly what was happening. I think it's probably less likely to go really bad if it's starting this way.

Oh, and another thing, it's more likely to happen when you have extremely bad vision....your eyeball is 'elongated' and there is more "pulling" or something like that when the process naturally occurs in older eyes....
