I'm in one of those bad moods were you over identify with a fictional character But said fictional character is kind of embarrassing so I'm just stewing, does this happen to anyone else?
Happens to me a lot, but then I usually feel silly about it, since it's usually some angst teenager I am feeling an affinity with. I do this with movie characters too, but then it's usually the sidekick that dies.

I don't do this so much with fictional characters as I do with songs. I will spit Fiona Apple's "Get Gone" when I am in a pissy mood. I will sing Radiohead when I am feeling ironic and post-modern, and Elbow's "Grace under pressure" when I am feeling upbeat and hopeful about life and the world.

I got through High School mumbling " what would Buffy Summers do?" and I assumed as I aged my role models would become more complex or grown up like " What would Shakleton do?" but no, it is not to be.

Is it Holden Caulfield? I'm trying to think of a more embarrassing character to identify with and failing.

I tend to identify with songs more.

Oh god no, not Caulfiend, or any vampire or anthropomorphic animals, thankfully.

Whelkie, I think mumbling "What would Buffy do?" was an excellent tactic. I'm sure Buffy helped you make some better decisions. I would go so far to say that Buffy is probably a pretty good role model for young people (despite her somewhat spotty love life track record).

Adult Whelk has someone else he identifies with, I think that's awesome. Fuckit two times if said character is somewhat embarrassing. You have a rich and imaginative interior life. That counts for something. Stew away in your fictional character's mien. Stew!

A girlfriend dumped me because I kept channeling Snake Plissken. Seriously.
