Still have never figured out why I have business cards. I have boxes of the damn things for every job that I've had and haven't ever come up with a use for them.
I give mine out to actual clients, as it has my direct work line and work email address, but I don't give them out fast enough. I have two mostly full boxes of the things, as the first set had the wrong FAX number, and someone decided I shouldn't just cross out the wrong number and scribble in the right one.
The obvious answer is to find any and all restaurants with a "drop in your business card for a chance to win a free lunch" bowls and drop in two or three (as long as your business card is not so flashy that it stands out from others at a glance).
I just bought a bunch of personal business cards, because pretty soon I'll be looking for a new job in a new area, and I figured it was a handy way to get my information passed along to possible employers. I doubt I'll actually use 250 cards, but ya never know.
In the 7.5 years I've worked for the same government department, I've never managed to use up a box of 250 because they keep changing the name. I give them to my kids and they always find a way to have fun with them. Then I pick them up from all over the house and throw them out.
I'm in my first job where I go through them like water. It's crazy. They give them out at one of the info desks to anyone who has a random idea and wants to get in touch, and then every place I go I invite people to visit the museum and give them a card to get in touch when they're in town. I'm on my 2nd box of 250 in 3 years.
In one of my previous jobs, I used to represent a college at educational fairs through SE Asia. I used to go through a box of 250 business cards in 3 days.
