Oddly enough, maybe ten seconds before I came to MetaChat and saw this post, I saw it my husband's* Facebook.

*DANG IT, it makes me angry that I get to say that with such ease and privilege when so many people don't.

I was expecting it too but when the fella got on his knew and opened the ring, I lost it! Who know this grumpy old ponce would be so sentimental?

And Elsa, it's funny, I live in NH and we have marriage here so even I feel guilty about using the word husband knowing others still don't have the rights. Although, it is also funny to see some more traditional str8 people squirm and get completely confused when
I use it.

No same-sex marraige in Australia yet, but there is (slow) progress on the issue and, in some states, other 'arrangements' are available (but a very poor substitute). There's a reasonable summary here and here. My own state government has announced its support and it currently planning to introduce legislation. However, we are facing an election sometime in the next 4-5 months and, if the Liberal-National Party (despite the name, the conservative side of politics) ends up back in power, I guess that might not be so likely to succeed.

I'm kind of in a crying mood, so I watched it twice and just lost it.
