I would like to temporarily give my black dog a rainbow mane for racing events without actually messing his coat up and making him unshowable. Any ideas?
Go to the mall, and look for an accessories shop (either Hello Kitty or many young girls hanging about). Tell the clerk what you want to do, and I will bet they can sell you exactly what you want.
Yup, I do believe a clip will do it! Too bad he's black- I've seen white dogs dyed with a mix of water and food coloring. An orange maltese, to be exact.
I once wanted to give my friend's black lab racing stripes or put and "R" on his side for his name. I was told by a hairdresser: "bleach before color."
Dog gel hair color won't show up on black dogs. (If you ever need to make the coat more black like if grey/brown hairs start popping up you can use water works hair color which is available at Sally's. This is, of course, not sanctioned but people use it all the time.)
Way way back when I did the horse show thing the way we added colorful ribbons or even added hair to sparse areas was to braid it in with a small amount of mane/tail hair. Stayed in nicely -even better with wet hair. You'll take it out right after the event so it doesn't cause any irritation.
