How to deal with people who stare at you One day years ago I was discussing a co-worker's brutal public transit commute with him. I teased him that he should learn to knit to pass the time, and added, "But you'd have to get used to people staring at you." He smirked and said, "I'd just say, 'I'm 6'5", I weigh 225, I've done a lot of time in the military, and I'm holding two pointed pieces of metal. What are you staring at?'" I had to admit that probably would have done the trick.
Before the Hayes Code: a really interesting essay about the Hayes Code of the 1940s and 50s, and what getting rid of it did and didn't accomplish. (Also has several Max Fleischer cartoons embedded- man, 1930s cartoons were WEIRD.)

Something about carpentry always makes me resort to puns that are real groaners.... I'm hanging some freshly painted doors at Swan's End today. It's a bit of a struggle because the 99-year-old door frames aren't too straight and some of the old doors are heavy. But at least when I'm done something in my house will be well-hung. Sorry. I just had to. Er, check out these new Trilby pics!

Mirroring reality I’ve been looking for the perfect compact mirror for awhile now. What I’d really like is a compact with two mirrors, and it’d be a bonus if one mirror is magnifying. So what I’m wondering is, if I were to buy a vintage compact, would it be possible to put a mirror in the second side? Perhaps a framer could do it?
