I have seen some of these before, but they are still astounding. Some of them almost move me to tears. There's just something about color photography from that long ago that makes you feel like you've found a time machine.

I saw an exhibit of maybe these. The exhibit I saw was comprised of color images which were made by taking 4 separate pictures with different film stocks, and then layering the negatives in order to come up with "natural" color. Pretty amazing.

The ones of the North Caucasus and Central Asia are stunning. As a long-time student of the cultures of the former Tsarist & Soviet sphere, these are like a time capsule.
