If obsessing was an Olympic sport I would be a gold medalist. Man, can I ever get preoccupied with something. Right now it's thinking about whether or not I should buy a house. It is taking up far too much space and time in my brain. [More:]The trouble is, this lifelong history of obsessing over problems and challenges often results in a really good solution that I may not have come up with otherwise, so I have trouble convincing myself to chill out. Ugh.
Obssessing is ok. Especially about big purchases. What kinda house?

We are the same in this regard. It'd be easier for me to quit if I weren't so darn good at it.

I may be a slow and deliberate thinker, but I usually make the right decision. It's just the thousands of RPMs spent moving a few feet that can be so frustrating when you're in that mode.

FWIW, when I was a banker, I helped people with this decision all the time, so if you want to ping me privately I'd be happy to listen.

(note I said listen, cuz sometimes you just need to get this stuff out of your brain. I'm happy to offer advice, but usually the last thing one needs is more information bouncing around inside their skull.)

Personally, I prefer to obsess at 2 in the morning. I find my obsessing then has the power to ruin not just the time I'm spending obsessing, but also the entire following day.

Ugh indeed. I know the feeling as well. This is one part of my life that my recent insistence that I remain mindful and present has helped. Unless I'm actually doing productive thinking, I've had some success forcing my brain to BE HERE NOW. I've had some pretty wonderful moments when I got my thoughts out of my brain and into the present.

Houses can be a pain, fwiw. Still I am glad I've got one :-)
