Is anyone from MeCha going? I have KatherineG's home address, (through stormygrey) and was going to send her a check, 'cause my own PayPal is bonked also. Haven't yet, and I don't know if it's appropriate to do that.

I was wondering if anyone here is going and would front her $30 for me and I would mail a check to them tomorrow.

Yeah, I saw the thread but it seemed like a lot to read just to find what it was you were talking about. I had read some of those links but they too do not explain what it is you are doing.

A link to a request for money is usually OK but asking here for money for anyone is not. See the FAQ. There is an explanatory link there. If you want to ask about collecting money for someone or something please email the admins.

At this point, I don't have time to email the admins. If you want to take it down, I understand.

One user on metafilter, Internet Fraud Detective Squad, Station Number 9, AKA Kathrine Guttierez Hines, is hosting the 2 girls in question. Earlier today, the paypal account that we were donating to so that Kathrine could buy groceries etc for her guests was frozen. Thus in the thread the idea of a mini meet up to gather some cash to cover immediate needs in order to tide them over until the pay pal situation is resolved.

All I'm doing is trying to get people to the meet up and Kathrine's husband will be there. Mefites and mechazens who wish to donate can give cash directly TO HIM, and if not they can kick back with a beer and meet some new people.

I'm leaving in literally 10 minutes. This was done on the fly with the most altruistic motives. If the admins want to pull it, I understand, but I really am just trying to help out a fellow NYer who is being amazingly generous with her time, energy, apartment, etc.

This is sort of an extraordinary and MeFi-specific situation, so I don't see a problem with leaving this up, but further fundraising activity should take place in the original threads over on MeFi because MeCha does have a standing 'no ask' policy. Keeping this up as a pointer to that stuff is OK, and personally, I think it's cool of you to help, miss_lapin.

To echo Miko I think it's great what you are doing miss_lapin. I just wish you had started out with the info in your 20:04 post.
