NYC people and/or readers of the New Yorker, can I please pick your brains? There was an article in the New Yorker (I think) awhile back about a guy who owns a restaurant in NYC. Not unusual in itself, but he is crabby & direct & tells people if they don't like the food, get out! (The food is supposed to be great, BTW). Anyone know who the guy is or the restaurant name?

Oh, not the Soup Nazi. This was a sit down entree kinda place.
I remember a NYer article about David Chang and Momofuku, but I don't remember him telling people to scram. So, possibly no help!

Definitely sounds like Kenny Shopsin.

Oh, and if it is Shopsins and in the New Yorker then I'm guessing it was written by Calvin Trillin.

Yes = Obscure Reference has it, I think. Here's the New Yorker Article. Thank you!

The article on Momofuku was interesting too, 'pupp. Was this the one you remembered?

I like him (even though I have not eaten there).
He's got a book now.

I've eaten there countless times. It was also one of the only restaurants in NYC that would tolerate my son, when he was 4 years old, wandering around from table to table to say "hello" to everyone.

There's also a movie and a book.

Ah, I remember seeing the doc on Netflix streaming

(not terribly exciting to watch).

I've eaten there and enjoyed the meal... thankfully there were only four of us as parties of five will be turned away.

That being said, I wasn't terribly comfortable, didn't really strike me as the cleanest of places.

mmm Shopsins

Yeah, Shopsins, without a doubt. When J and I went there, he was unhappy about a party of four moving two small tables together. That being said, space is very tight for the waiters and it was a really busy Saturday lunchtime.

Funny, I read about Shopsins via MetaFilter...

Next time I go to Shopsins I'm going to have the ebelskivers. Scroll down for video. The chef looks to be Kenny's son, not the man himself.

That's Zack. He's a lot like Kenny. His daughters used to work there too and they're a lot like Eve, Kenny's late wife. I had ebelskivers for the first time lunch on my birthday last November.

Obscure Reference for the (eponysterical) win!

I remember the piece - I love Trillin and read whatever he writes. Have never been to Shopsin's, which is too bad. It sounds fun.

Just found this... apparently Kenny has a cookbook... or something...

I have been doing some reading on the ocean and climate, and || Chimps have better memories than humans? (SLYT)
