12 December 2009

Saturday 3-point update. [More:]
1. I bought a faux-Slanket today, called a Snugglewarm. It was only £5.99.

2. I picked out my new flooring, but need my contractor to approve it before I order it. It's unlikely to be laid by Christmas though. No big deal.

3. I'm going to see Cock tonight, with another bunny. We've been looking forward to seeing Cock for a while. And every time we talk about seeing Cock we snigger like 13-year-olds.
1. It's 41ºF/5ºC inside my house this morning. I have one room that's warm, though, so it's OK. I'm sick of bitching about not having heat, and am worried other people are bored with me, but it's just that it's an ever-present concern. So I keep talking/bitching about it. How tedious I'm being! Can't. Stop. Part's in, though, and there's a service call scheduled for today.

2. I'm going to a holiday parade this morning, which I will enjoy immensely. It's a tradition with one of my friend groups, and I'm really looking forward to it. Afterwards I'll stop by another friend's house and say hi to her babbies.

3. Tomorrow I'm going to the local art museum, which has a Picasso exhibit. It will be excellent, as well.

1. Got the night off yesterday, thanks to a sorority fundraiser. Oh, it was nice to go and do stuff and not worry that someone needed something RIGHT NOW.

2. Got the night off again tonight as finals are over and the kids see their dad. Grrlz nite out!

3. Kids are still asleep after their night out, so it's still pretty quiet for 8:00 am.

1) I really need to get up and go to the gym. These calories won't burn themselves.

2) It's the Lady of Guadalupe's feast day today. I missed the morning celebrations but hopefully I'll stop by for a procession at a local RCC today. I've always wanted to see one.

3) Frosted Flakes just doesn't taste the same without milk.

1) It's been a nice relaxing morning so far...it's not quite 9:30AM. The girls woke me up around 6:00, but I instantly forgave them, as is my way. Great coffee, some Wii with the girls, perhaps we'll get back to the ongoing Monopoly game we've been playing all week. (Lately, it's been making me laugh to pretend I'm not a single dad of two, but a Hefner-like guy who refers to the "girls" a lot.)

2) Ev's got dance soon...my ex will come pick her up for that. Sophie's got a sleepover birthday party later. Then, a Christmas open house at some friends.

3) Might have to fit going-into-work in later. Need to move some UPSs around. Yay, work, heavy lifting on a Saturday!

I. I've been to the gym and was very glad to notice that I'm a bit heavier. Yes, that's the opposite of what other people aim for.

II. A very good friend got married in a 14th century knights hall in Haarlem. Awesome location.

III. Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber soll mann schweigen.

ad III: that's an intellectually pimped up way of saying; I have nothing more to add.

Ras: Neck achy. Looked at some stretches online, which have helped. Freaked out about the possibility of expensive/unavailable physical therapy.

Dwa: Ironing!

Trzy: For tonight's Christmas party! Yay!

1. Got to sleep in, which is always a plus. Husband woke me up with coffee, which is extremely erotic; if I weren't so damn sleepy. Once I drink the coffee and wake up, the effect wears off, and he doesn't look so damn sexy, so I just get dressed and go about my day.
2. Off to the Animal Shelter once again today. I liked a dog I met there the other day, and I want to spend time with him one on one. I fear that because this particular pooch has been at the shelter for awhile, it may be slated to be taking that walk to the big hydrant in the sky rather soon. If this is the case, I am going to have to rearrange my Christmas plans to include said new pooch.
3. Have a friend visiting from DC, and he is super-chill. He loves old movies, so last night I picked out 1939's Beau Geste, because I loved the book so much as a child. Strangely, neither my husband or our guest are familiar with the tail. The movie isn't so great, but Gary Cooper is in it, so that was pretty cool.

1. Neighborhood house tour stuff has mostly dominated my life for the last week. I let one group last night and will do another tomorrow. Everyone seemed to like my tour last night, I didn't get too flustered or tongue-tied.

2. I've not done anything for Xmas yet. Sigh.

3. Big party for the tour volunteers tonight, lots of food and booze and I can walk home.

1. I feel like I just got a new lease on life.

2. I vacuumed my family room and living room a few minutes ago.

3. I went to Chili's last night. I swore I would never eat there again but I did. My son and I shared a bacon burger and quesadillas. There was enough salt to kill a person. I could have ordered a salad but that would have been too sane.

1. Eating leftover Chinese food for breakfast. Good stuff.

2. Finally installed LP recording software, and am recording all my favorite Christmas LPs to the computer.

3. Watched Shakespeare in Love on TV this morning too. Wish I knew all of the references.

1. I love Chili's. LOVE IT. They don't have them here and I miss them, so I always go when I'm in Florida. There definitely is enough salt to kill a person, but, eh, you have to live a little.

2. Stynxno and I just went in on a pink Flip Ultra in time for Christmas! Yaaaay! Can't wait to post lots of videos, particularly since my sister and BIL won't be coming back from China for the holidays.

3. I'm still lying around in my PJs, doing a little Christmas shopping on Amazon.com. Must get up, go to the gym, clean this place.

[warning: grumpy]
1. Earache. I blame the cold (2 celsius here today, which is unusually chilly)
2. Too much work to do. Want to drink mulled wine.
3. Working from home is getting reeeally old for me.

SIGH. The part (motor) didn't work. It made the same high-pitched screeching as the old one. Good news: I have an emergency heat setting, which I did not realize.

1. Someone told me last night that I look like Adrian/Talia Shire, so I watched Rocky for the first time ever (though one would think it would have been required viewing right outside Philly where I grew up).

2. I do not look like Adrian. She does look just like a friend of mine, though.

3. Need to find a white elephant gift for a party tomorrow. I think we're supposed to find something in our homes that we don't want... But I don't tend to keep things that I don't want. Thinking of hitting the dollar store.

reactive three-point update:

1.
It's unlikely to be laid by Christmas though. No big deal.

snicker snicker snicker, I too am a 13-year-old.

2.
I'm sick of bitching about not having heat, and am worried other people are bored with me, but it's just that it's an ever-present concern.

For myself, I'm not at all tired of hearing it, only sorry that it's taking so long. This must be really stressful. Glad to hear you have one heated room, though.

3.
There was enough salt to kill a person.

I'm pretty sure they're required to keep it to a sub-lethal dose. If you have two helping, then yeah, you're going to expire right there at the table.

1. Rainy rainy rainy. We need to buy a Christmas tree, but I'm not sure how well that's going to go in the rain.

2. My goal is to get Christmas cards done today, and the presents for my non-visiting relatives wrapped and ready to go in the mail. That seems do-able, but I'm not sure that I will do it.

3. I keep having weird vivid dreams that seem so real that I'll wake up in the morning and think I haven't dreamed but that I *have* actually experienced whatever I dreamed about. Last night's was that I was in Brooklyn on some entrepreneurial business trip and I was worried that my clothing would give me away as not super-rich, which it did, to some detrimental effect, and then I went to a museum that was also part of an avant-garde low-income housing project. And then dream-me realized, Hey! I'm in Brooklyn! I should call my brother and see if he can meet me for dinner! Which dream-me did, but dream-brother did not call me back. Bastard. :-)

Found a white elephant in my apartment - an awesomely stupid dream interpretation book that I got as a gift once.

TPS: There's a Chili's in Princeton, if you're ever jonesing enough to take a train ride out to Jersey. I have never actually been to it, but I imagine they are all pretty much the same.

1. Finished up my present shopping last night. Now I need to finish my secret exchange gifts and get those packaged somehow, considering the boxes I have are too small.

2. Lots of little miscellany to clean up and remove from the running list of shit to do today.

3. I am fucking determined to have the fucking basic shimmy down before dance classes start back up. Argh.

1.) Slept ten hours with vivid dreams last night. Even remembered some of them.

2.) "No, you're not being a wuss. It really *is* offensively cold out here tonight."

3.) "Of *course* they were sad to see you go. They *liked* you. You're a likeable person, y'know?"

  1. Tired. Went to work Christmas lunch on Friday. Started at 12.30 pm with a lunch river cruise. Ended with me trying to get into bed without waking anyone up at 1.45 am Saturday. Lots of fun.
  2. Tired. After above, got up at 6.00 am and went to boot camp. Not a lot of fun.
  3. Tired. No sleep in today - had to get up and mow lawns early so I can go and help mother at her Christmas get-together. Not going to be fun.

1.) Intense workout last night, coupled with more than a hour of walking around in below-freezing temperatures.

2.) Had at least ten hours of sleep but still not at 100%

3.) Skipping today's scheduled workout. I'm not 18 anymore. Let discretion be the better part of health and fitness.

1. I saw Cock this evening, with sueinnyc. It was excellent, although the lead actor had the most annoying hairstyle ever. It was both bush and floppy and the same time.

2. Psyching myself up for a drive to Welwyn Garden City tomorrow to exchange gifts with my sister. She's easy to buy for - just think of what a 12-year-old girl would like - pink sparkly stuff, boyband stuff and Spongebob Squarepants stuff.

3. As I type this, I am wearing my faux-Slanket, which is, without a doubt, the Greatest Garment Ever Invented. It's a blanket! But it has sleeves! Yes! It's a BLANKET WITH SLEEVES!!! That you can type in!! And stay warm and snuggly AT THE SAME TIME!!

3a. Sadly, it is also the most unsexy garment ever, and if I was ever to wear this in the presence of anyone in whom I had a romantic interest, then the only thing that'd get laid in this place ever again is the new flooring.

1. It's the mister's birthday!

2. Today's shopping trip to Zeller's (Canada's Kmart) finally allowed me to snag some decent xmas holiday cards.

3. Had an early dinner at I-HOP (mister's choice) and it was good.

1. Fry the cat bit me the other day, apparently in a catnip-related psychosis, and my hand swelled up from infection. This morning I went to urgent care and got antibiotics and hydrocodone, which doesn't make the pain go away but does make me sort of well, yeah, I'm in pain, huh.

2. Not getting much done due to this. I have been expanding-foam spraying over at the rental property. It's insane how badly that place leaks air. Four big cans so far and I'm not done with one 3BR apartment. The place was gutted 15 years ago and they sort of threw these 2x4/drywall interiors in without bothering to redo the floor, and all the places they cut open from previous walls and stairs are covered with scraps of plywood and it's uneven as hell and there are gaps large enough to stick a small hand into. No wonder it uses energy like a mofo.

3. Looked at some insulated door options at the home center for a wing room we want to reno for my nephew to switch rooms into, so he has enough space for his gf and son when they stay over. It opens out over the garage. This is where my brother and I grew up and it was never properly insulated (I think) even for 1970s standards (it's a 19th C house) and the electric heat out there is scary expensive. More stuff my dad sort of did half-assed. I wish I didn't disrespect him so much but this was an area he must have known better.

4. I swear one day I will learn to do these in one or two lines.

1. Had a good weekend so far which is now devolving into work stress and getting some stuff (but not enough) done.

2. Met the bf's parents for the first time at impromptu drinks last night, I think it went ok.

3. Lit Chanukah candles AND downloaded the menorah app for my Droid so I can light them electronically as soon as the sun sets (when I am still at work, boo).

4. Saw "An Education" and loved it. It's one of those movies you keep thinking about after it ends and I was left with a lot of questions about Peter Saarsgaard's character.

1. Work on Saturday was nothing but talk of a possible (really, ridiculous, unwarrented) strike. Fear reigns in my store.

2. Because of #1, we aren't getting our bonuses - which impacts plans for Christmas. Yikes. I will make do - it is what it is.

3. I had a date. And I got in at 2:30AM on Sunday!!!! Did not want the night to end....... ^_^

Hmmm, I got in at 1.45 am Saturday after our Christmas lunch. Were you by any chance at the Vic? I swear one of those redheads looked familiar ;-)
