ACORN to be martyred in Nevada where you cannot compensate your canvassers based on quotas: "Canvassers under pressure to keep their jobs turned in registrations with fake names and phony addresses -- even, in one case, the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys, authorities alleged." [More:] I have been following this since the Vegas ACORN offices were raided, and the prosecutors appear to have hard evidence that ACORN's state directors in Nevada violated ACORN's overall policy on compensation. This one is going to fall squarely on a jury that will most likely be composed of people much like the canvassers, both ethnically and class-wise, who will testify against ACORN's management. Anyone who is an ACORN sympathizer had best start thinking in terms of damage control.
"ACORN's state directors" should be "Las Vegas field director" and "regional director".

It never seemed like a particularly defensible policy in the first place. Seems like an invitation for fraud and abuse even when closely monitored. Given the fact that this was an issue at least four years old, you'd think they would have had about fifteen pro bono lawyers following around every roving registrar.

I mean, it's one thing to help out the vote totals, but the actual successful voting pool increases garnered by these marginally-committed voters to begin with are nothing compared with handing the right a ready-made whine fest with a ribbon on top.

Assholes. And I'm not talking about the right.

I ran into many of these canvassers when I was in Vegas, and let me tell you, those men and women were busting their tails to get registrations, especially outside grocery stores and working the bus stops. Vegas is a horrible city to have to work outside, particularly at such a frustrating job. I constantly wondered what ACORN's return on their investment was on these canvassers and whether that money could be better spent targeting groups other than random people on the street.

Internet, or Bagels? || Don't you love it when a song and a video go together really well?
