An AskMe post gave me a place to live; a Tweet took it away. This AskMe post made another MeFite realize that her mother was my new landlady/housemate. Unbeknownst to me, she apparently started following my Twitter updates...
So what did you twit that was so off-putting?

The tweet in question is in a screenshot at that first link. I just said that I didn't want to have Christmas dinner with my housemate's family.

That tweet didn't seem so bad to me. Strange.

Heh, it's more offensive that your landlady/housemate's daughter was spying on you and reporting back to her mom.

Gotta watch what you say...it's a small world.

Yeah, what BP said.

Effing hell. This all cyber-nightmare info-feed BS. Welcome to the future!

On a related note, it seems employers now are often Googling potential employees and checking out everything that comes up. Webpages, social-network pages, comments and profiles on communal blogs (MeFi anyone?) and chat sites, short stories or anecdotes published on the Web... Like, wow.

Bloody hell!

Besides - that tweet of yours was reasonable and normal! It's awkward having to spend time with strangers or people you don't know that well in a situation like that.

Geesh.

You just made me feel better about the inevitable day when I put my house on the market and leave the rest of the neighborhood to deal with the douches next door. Thank you for that.

Whenever I think or worry about what I've written or said online in conjunction with my current job or future employment, I keep reminding myself that if Cameron Diaz doesn't mind that her broker did gay porn, then I'll be fine.

However, I also try not to say anything disparaging about work or drop too many hints about who my boss is. Try to, at least. I do like this job and want to keep it.

Damn, here I thought you wanted to start up a correspondence club. What should we write about?

Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons?

Whoopsie-daisy!
posted by Hugh Janus 09 April | 00:53
Ok, that's just WEIRD, because your tweet is a perfectly reasonable thing to both say and do. It would be akward if you were in there but not at Xmas thingie, so getting out was even considerate. Dangit.
posted by dabitch 09 April | 03:44
...or, oh, wait I see how the daughter saw it: She's thinkig - if he had nothing else to do why did he not accept? Gosh, maybe not everyone wants to do that Xmas partying thingie, especially not with their landladies. Sheesh.

nthing what BP said. Crazy is as crazy does. Whatever that means. Sounds like she had a crush on you & got her feelings hurt. Run!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your kind thoughts. Some people have emailed me asking for the daughter's identity, and, though I do know her mefi username, I'm not going to give it out. She was just doing what she thought was right. She's a mefite, she realized that her luddite mother's new housemate was a mefite who had been a member since 2001, so she probably settled in and did some research, found my twitter feed as well, and monitored for signs of trouble. It's inevitable that in that kind of situation, you're going to find what you seek. Although the whole situation is a bit ridiculous, I have to admit that if someone with a significant online presence moved in with my mother, I would probably do the same thing.

p.s. If I am not living with your mother, and you spend a lot of time looking at my old mefi posts, it means that you want to have sex with me. Just saying.

I didn't think the tweet was anything weird or bad. If my roomie posted that, it wouldn't be anything to me.
